I couldn't when I did it. I just had to stop the withdrawals, let it run down to a small amount I didn't mind losing, and then switch tags.

I originally made the error of getting TxTag when I first got to Dallas (not knowing there was more than one, I had just Googled "Texas Toll Tag" and registered for what came up).

TxTag is a billing headache if you're actually a Dallas resident. As mentioned, NTTA is better for using the airport and is much less of a pain if there are ever any billing glitches.

I'd probably rather have a NTTA in DFW because you can use it at the airport. Also, I think you can use NTTA in Oklahoma. Otherwise it doesn't matter that much.

Does anyone know why TX has different toll systems and not just an EZ-Pass like on the east coast?

Yes, you can use NTTA in Oklahoma. I used TxTag in DFW for about a year...NTTA is much less headache.

Privatized toll collection companies.

If you are driving mainly in the DFW area, I would get the NTTA.

When I moved to DFW I got the TxTag. All was well for a couple of years then I get a bill from NTTA for some old tolls. Well I paid those tolls via my TxTag. I had a copy of the bill where the dates and timestamps matched. But NTTA didn't care and didn't want to hear it. "Our equipment showed you didn't pay it" or something like that NTTA said. I had to get a statement or letter or something from TxTag declaring I did indeed paid the tolls. But they would not accept a copy of my statement????!!!!

TxTag was no help either. "You paid it, there is nothing we can do". Since the tolls were less than $3 I just went ahead and paid it. Twice And then I got a new car which meant a new tag. NTTA could not read the new tag. TxTag had no idea why. And I was racking up zipcharges. So I canceled my TxTag and got a NTTA. I look at this way - NTTA can't say they can not read their own tags can they. Nor can they tell me I didn't pay a toll when its in their system that I did.

Yep, exactly what happened to me, except I didn't realize immediately that I was dealing with two totally different entities.
