I'll be in Dallas from Thursday till Sunday and need to get my runs in. Would rather not resort to the hotel treadmill.

Are there any good, safe early morning (pre-dawn) routes from downtown and back, 4 to 7 miles? I'm staying at Sheraton Dallas.

I see something called Katy Trail NW of there. Is that the best bet? Or is there good street running routes or other routes that I can go to without having to drive there?

Steve

Katy Trail is great! You can cut from the Sheraton down San Jacinto to Pear St. Take Pearl Street and loop around to the American Airlines Center where you can pick up the Katy Trail. It is about 5 mile loop up to Knox Street and back down to AAC.

The 7 mile loop is all the way north to Mockingbird. The AAC-Knox Street loop is right at 5 miles.

Got it. I see that and mapped it out on runkeeper. Just over a mile from the hotel to Katy Trail behind AA Center, then it's just an out and back run from there. I'll just go until I hit my 1/2 distance and turn around.

Thanks!

Steve

That's right, sorry.

You'll really like Katy Trail Steve...not quite the hike and bike in Austin but almost as nice and most of it has nice rubberized track

Heads up on Katy Trail...

There is a slight grade traveling from south to north. I discovered one hot Dallas day while roller blading on the trail. I thought the effort skating north was harder than it should have been but realized the reason on my easy skate to the south.

It's not much of a grade but....

Ha, no worries. Austin is very hilly, especially in my neighborhood, so I'm up and down some whopper hills on a regular basis. A nice slight grade will be a welcome departure from the norm!
