I agree, we have a 3600 sf home on a 1/3 acre. We have a 2 car and then expanded the one car out to one and a half. We couldn't have squeezed more on the lot and I don't feel we overbuilt for our lot.

This forum is fascinating.

You know a lot of families around DFW have zero garages, right?

Well they also probably don't have 5 cars. Different strokes, different folks.

And I'm sure they still complain when their cars get hail damage while sitting outside in a storm, or gets broken into at night. Personally, I love our garage and we park our cars in it every night! I only wish it was a little bigger for more storage.

Please read the thread title.

Should I now say thank you for using your garages as storage unit this leaving your vehicles out during hail storms thus increasing insurance premiums for everyone?

2 car garage. I'd rather my husband use a detached outbuilding as a workshop.

lack of basements in Dallas = 3 car garage choice.

I'll take as many as i can get. We're looking to add 2 more tandem spaces during an addition. Having a racecar and an old car i tinker on means there are 2 gone automatically.

I'd love to have a 3 car, but 2 is what we have. Unfortunately my vehicle does not fit in our current garage, or at our previous house.

Having a single car used to be a luxury. Then it became two cars, now it's 3. Families that have two kids of driving age, now it's common for a family to have 4 or 5 cars. The trend seems to show that number of garage spaces in a home is increasing.

Older homes, a 1 car garage was the standard, then it became 2 for a very long time. You had to buy a very large house in order to find a 3 car, but now, it's possible to find a 3 car garage in a home under 3k sq ft. That was practically impossible to find in the 80's and 90's.

We make do with a 3 car... but it sure would be nice to have more room in there for the lawn stuff, tools, etc.
