3 just to not be crowded with yard tools, Christmas storage, etc.

2.5 or 3. Just for storage. Never hurts for resale either.

I have a 4 car garage, double tandem, and I couldn't imagine going to something smaller. We use all the space.

When we were looking for houses at the end of 2014, the vast majority of houses were 3 car garage in our price range. We found two homes that had 4 car garages out of probably 100+ homes.

One home we found though, had a 6 CAR GARAGE! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Within budget, it had two separate 3 car garages with a courtyard type entrance. Normally, the house was a 4 car garage type of house, it was a builder option to extend it and add the extra car garage on each side.

I wanted that house so badly, but unfortunately, the exterior didn't work at all, the interior wasn't laid out very well either, and the location absolutely sucked (backed up to huge power lines, a horrible eyesore).

Six would be a very good number for me.

A minimum of three but four preferred. The last three garages were furnished completely with Gladiator including floors, TV, fridge and a comfortable barstool for me when visiting SO. My request for a peeking/speaking hole between office and garage was not granted((

Looking at lot sizes in popular areas, 4 or more on a even a healthy budget is more like a fantasy. From my lifelong experience, 3rd garage is a much needed luxury, more so then a media room. I perticulary dislike people who have two garages and a driveway but their cars are always parked outside on the street.

I've never been a fan of storing things in the garage so 2 garage spaces have always worked fine for us. Now that our daughter also has a car, she has to park on our circular driveway out front. I actually don't mind because it has cut down on the number of people that use our circular drive to make a u-turn (so rude!) With son about to inherit her car when she goes off to college we are looking at only 3 more years with a 3rd car.

I've got a neighbor with 4 cars and a 2-car garage, one of the spaces is for storage. He definitely needs more garage space!
