Similarly, after school activities. For example, lots of people drive from 30 minutes away to use the Plano sports programs. Living in the City keeps after-school activity driving to a minimum.

You might THINK you don't need a good public school system, until you do. Sometimes the private school you think will be a perfect fit doesn't turn out that way. Or changes. Or isn't right for one of your kids. Or you need special services for your kid (which they can get regardless of where they go to school if you pay ISD taxes). I have found it always helps to have a good plan B.

Added benefit of better resale potential.

If you aren't using the public schools I would move as close to work AND the school as you can while still being in a desirable neighborhood. You can find some nice older homes in Plano zoned to great elementary and middles schools north of Legacy, east of Coit for under $400k.
That’s why Hebron is a great suggestion as it is literally across the street from West Plano and is also zoned to great schools. Hebron HS is a great fallback for Catholic school. And it’s a straight shot in Midway/Tennyson into Legacy West. I use Midway as a shortcut half the time when DNT southbound is backed up. You’re talking maybe a 10-15 commute to work depending on how far west in Hebron and 10-20 to POP / JPII.

Exact, that poster is speaking as if it’s South Oak Cliff HS or something.

This is true.

He spoke of the entire Lewisville ISD as if it were trash. Both Flower Mound high schools are in Lewisville ISD and some of the best high schools in the state.

I'll let them know; I really think she should just join up here and ask these questions herself, I kind of don't like being the middleman. I'll send her a link to this thread and encourage her to sign up herself.

I personally think that it's always good to have a good public school fallback; I went to private school and felt like I could never leave private school because the alternative would be the "big scary" DISD. That was sometimes kind of a sucky position to be in as an adolescent.

I'm sorry you felt that way. I went to "big scary" DISD all my life. Everyone I know came out just fine and went on to well-regarded universities.

I grew up alongside kids who went to the local schools and they all turned out fine too. The "big scary" comment was in quotes for a reason.

As for my college friend and her family, they made an offer in a house in northwest Plano and it was accepted. They'll be about 2 miles due north of the Willow Bend mall.

Thank you to everyone who offered advice.
