Just noticed a leakage in the garage ceiling. Climbed up the attic and saw there is a gap at the top most edge of the roof where the 2 panels from either sides meet throughout the length of the roof. Is that normal?
The leak patch is only on one area of the ceiling. So I doubt if the water maybe leaking through the shingles that covers the top edge of the roof. I can clearly see sunlight coming in through that gap. Do I need a roofer check it out?

No that's not normal, call your roofer.

Not normal to leak - but the sheathing gap is normal with a ridge vent.

Agree that gap is normal with ridge vent. Ceiling leak may have come from somewhere else.

Water does sometimes come in from the ridge vents, it happens when high wind happens to hit your roof just right and it can push water back up the roof under the ridge vent. However, it's usually not enough to be concerned about. What is directly above that spot on your ceiling? Hot water heater close by? A/C units with a clogged condensation line? Could be several things.

That's what I suspect too, we had heavy wind last week and probably might be the culprit, need to wait until the next rain to confirm if it's really a leak. I also found a piece of shingle laying on the ground the next morning. Might have dislodged something by the wind.

It's a garage attic, so nothing over there to cause a leak. Just some wooden panels above the leaky spot.

Lot of people had spots from blowing snow during the cold spell. It would blow in the crevices then melt. No roof leaks.
