I had my last 4 baby molars out in the 1960s prior to getting braces. Don’t know what was used (laughing gas?) just a mask over nose administered by a regular dentist. It put me out.

I only had 3 wisdom teeth. Had them out in my 20s with just novocaine. All at once. No real pain, but definitely was aware of pressure and wrenching and pulling. Stopped at the drug store on the way home to get a pain Rx. My mouth was so dead I was drooling all over the place. Pharmacist filled that prescription FAST to get me out of there.

Mr. Dokie has had both his hips replaced. First time they gave him an epidural and something to make him not give a darn what was going on. He said afterwards he could hear them sawing and pounding, he didn’t really care at the time but kind of freaked him out later. He chose general anesthetic for the second one. He liked that better. So General Anesthesia does have its place.

I believe that with some locals you are barely awake, won't feel anything, yet with none of the drawbacks of general.

Mine were done one or two at a time, can't remember. Laughing gas was used, no general. It was not an unpleasant experience. But then, I was fairly young at the time.

I had all of my teeth removed last October for one side, November for the other and December for the front. Most of them were only remains of teeth that broke at the gum line. I had laughing gas and novacane that didn't contain epinephrine. I would never have the whole mouth done at once. I know people who did who were miserable. My jaw still hurts a year later.

I have delta dental, they would not pay for the laughing gas. They also would not pay for anesthesia to knock me out. It cost two to three times more then laughing gas from memory.

The OP should get a second opinion from an actual oral surgeon, not using a regular dentists office like I did when my daughter had wisdom teeth taken out as a teen. They did one or two at a time. For the rest I took her to an oral surgeon because she has nerve damage where the dentist removed her wisdom tooth.

I had all of mine removed before I was 18. I was between ten and fifteen at the time. I was miserable for days. Imagine going to Hershey park a day or two later, not being able to sample the chocolate when doing the factory tour. Never would I do a both sides at once.

I had an oral surgeon lie to me about that. I told him I just wanted a local but he insisted they put me 'under' with nitrous and a shot. I said I would agree to some nitrous and a local anesthetic and he agreed. Then when I got there the people prepping me gave me nitrous and then when I was high on that shot me up with something. I had nightmaress for years about that. It was just ene wisdom tooth and an adjacent molar. When I had the other wisdom teeth out I didn't let anyone get near me with any needles. I just got some marcaine and I was fine.

I don’t know what they gave you, but it wasn’t general anesthesia. If it was general anesthesia, they would’ve put a mask over your nose and mouth and had you count backwards from 100 and you would’ve fallen into a deep sleep around 90 or so.

I've only had one removed and it was under local. First oral surgeon said I would probably end up with a hole into my sinus. Second opinion said it could be done under local and there was little chance of that complication. Guess which one i chose? I took a couple Valium beforehand, had the local, and don't remember it being difficult or painful. The crunching and wrenching feeling of course is always a bit unpleasant.

Get a 2nd opinion.

You don't need to be, but maybe you want to be. Its your choice unless there is something about your situation that makes it more complicated than usual.

I’ve had nitrous oxide for fillings, oral sedation for root canals and a propofol mix for dental implants. Don’t know how serious your case is but I’ve never been told I need general anesthesia for any of my work.

I don't know if this is used for wisdom tooth extraction with general anesthesia.

I'm really glad that I didn't know one of these would be used when I had hernia surgery under general. Well duh. Yes, I was just blissfully unaware.

Afterwards my windpipe was sore, so I found out!
Having had multiple general anesthesia with endotracheal indubation I agree you can have a sore throat from the tube,,,depends on how long the tube is in. Also the skill of the doc…
Most have not been bad enough to complain about…at least for me

Dental anesthesia is like colonoscopy…no tube, just a mask and IV infusion…..so no tube in throat

No way I would have had four impacted out with only local

You must be a tough guy

Monday of this week I had another extraction that was direct result of Air Force dentists wrecking my mouth.
You only have four wisdom teeth, not six
