I just swish every day with hydrogen peroxide. It's cheap, and it works. It may take a little longer than the strips to get the effect you want, but that's okay by me.
It's just the stuff in the brown bottle with, I think, a purple label. I use 3%, and the whitening strips have 6% peroxide listed as one of the ingredients.
but I don't have that much money right now, and we've been using the Target version of the Listerine whitening mouthwash and while the results aren't as fast, we (the adults in the house) HAVE seen a pretty quick improvement. It's about $4 a bottle and lasts a couple weeks with 3 of us using it at least 2x a day.
