Tebow. He's young. (Younger than my youngest daughter, yikes!) Manning's older, doesn't have much time left.

Manning has also been out for a full year, and is risking permanent cervical spinal damage by playing. He has a full life ahead of him, and nothing to prove to anyone. He's foolish to play.

Tebow is a work in progress; not that impressive right now, but who knows?

Having said all this, though....I don't really care.

Tebow has showed some signs of brilliance, like in the Pitt playoff game.

In a season that Denver was expected to go 4-12, Tim Tebow went 8-5 as Denver's starting QB last season, including a playoff win against Pittsburgh.

I think he is getting the shaft.

Tebow is a nice guy, but I'm going with Manning on this one. How could we pass him up even if it's just for a couple years?

Please. The team went 8-5 with Tebow as the starter. The offense was atrocious for a majority of his time as the signal caller.

How many times did Prater have to save our bacon with 40-50 yard game-winning field goals because Tebow could barely move the team across mid-field?

During the regular season we beat ONE team that finished the season with a winning record - the Bengals, and Orton was the QB.

We beat a horrible Bears team thanks in large part to Marion Barber's miscue and Matt Prater's leg, not Tebow.

We beat a Jets team that moronically decided to spend the final 2 minutes of the game in a defensive setup that was different than the one they used to dominate us all day.

We got lucky.

Either way you look at it, 2012 is a gamble. It's a choice between an aging hall-of-fame bound great who's coming off major surgery, and a scrappy kid with way more athleticism than quarterbacking prowess. I know folks want Tebow to succeed but he'd have a better chance of doing so as a tight end or fullback.

Along those lines, here's something I did in the Pro Football forum on 12-12-11.

Here's a few stray thoughts...
- In the 13-10 victory over the Bears, Prater scored 7 points, Tebow 6.
- In the 35-32 victory over the Vikings, Prater scored 9 points, Tebow 14 (one 2-point conversion), MaGahee 6, Haggan (pick 6).
- In the 16-13 victory over the Chargers, Prater scored 10 points, Tebow 6.
- In the 17-13 victory over the Jets, Prater scored 5 points, Tebow 6 (rushing), Goodman 6 (pick 6).
- In the 17-10 victory over the Chiefs, Prater scored 5 points, Tebow 12 (six rushing, six passing).
- In the 38-24 victory over the Raiders, Prater scored 8 points, Tebow 12, MaGahee 12, Royal 6 (on a return).

In the past 6 games, the Bronco's 136 points are attributable to each:
- 56 points for Tebow (42 passing, 14 rushing which includes the 2-pointer)
- 44 points for Prater (30 on field goals, 14 on PATs)
- 18 points for MaGahee (rushing)
- 06 points for Goodman (pick six)
- 06 points for Royal (kick return)
- 06 points for Haggan (pick six)

Or look at it this way:
- 44 points kicking game (30 on field goals, 14 on PATs)
- 42 points passing game (7 TDs)
- 38 points running game (30 on rushing, 6 on returns, 2 on the two-pointer)
- 12 points on pick-six plays

Or look at it this way: 56 points by Tebow and 80 points by the rest of the team.

Prater is only 12 points behind Tebow in this string of victories.

This stretch of victories may well end up as a footnote in the "odd statistics" stack of the NFL.

Oh well, enough number crunching....

Doesn't change the fact that we were expected to go 4-12 and instead made the playoffs with a win vs Pitt.

Luck isn't provable.

Tebow is young, big, and people like him. What's Manning going to do with this team? He's a piece of glass.

Tebow could win a popularity contest. At least we got that goin' for us, which is nice.

The Bengals were predicted to win no more than 4 games, too, what's your point?

Bottom line, Tebow has not proven he can be a legitimate passing threat in a passing league. How many chances and excuses will he get before we cut bait?

He's played in 23 games...over 2 seasons with nothing but uncertainty from upper management.

I think Tebow is a Ben Roethlisberger style player, and will have those kind of numbers.
