I think the Palace had pretty much taken that business away from the Dome even before it closed the first time. Unless someone really thinks they need seating for 80,000, and then I think they would be drawn more to Ford Field. So, no, probably not.

The suburbs also extend to the west and south of the city of Detroit, so downtown is much more central than Pontiac.

I think the new owners of the Silverdome will have a hard time getting anything more than a tractor pull. As mentioned it is not good acoustically for concerts. Ford Field can handle a giant concert plus any sporting event. Comerica Park can be used for concerts in the Summer, along with the popular DTE Music Theater (Pine Knob) to the north. The Palace seats 20K for concerts, basketball, hockey, Disney on Ice or whatever else. There is just no real need for an 80,000 seat arena in metro Detroit.

Downtown also has restaurants, bars, nightclubs, casinos, hotels and other attractions for before and after a concert. The Silverdome has a liquor store, White Castle and a bunch of tier-1 and tier-2 automotive manufactures.

A.R. Rahman, the composer for Slumdog Millionaire, is bringing his Bollywood concert tour to the Silverdome. After he reschedules, of course.
