What are your thoughts on Ken Cockrel and others you think would be fit for the position?

I like Dave Bing for a few reasons. First, he hasn't been involved in politics, and so he brings a fresh presence into the quagmire that is the Detroit city government. Second, he's a sound businessman and has experience in actually BUILDING something rather than tearing it apart. Third, he's the antithesis of Kilpatrick morally, which should get him elected by itself.

I think alot of people might not like cockrel or bing cause they might work with the suburbs like archer. Most detroiters think of that as bringing outsiders into their neighborhoods. Most people I knew didn`t like archer they felt like he cared about people who didn`t live in detroit more then us who do live there.

I'll vote for Sharon McPhail. She seems like she would bring a great deal of positive change to the city. Who's with me on that one?

Not I. She was one of Kilpatrick's lawyers, and anyone dumb enough to represent that guy in any capacity immediately gets crossed off my list.

Dave Bing, since he says his campaign money isn't going to just come from white people. If he can inject race into the race this early, he's gotta be "the man".

I wish they could bring Coleman Young back from hell. He was really entertaining, charismatic and cool. I used to enjoy watching the banter between Brooks and him. Hey, HE'D be the perfect mayor for Detroit! Brooks Patterson! He'd have that sinkhole cleaned up in about a year!

Sharon McPhail for Mayor of Detroit? Surely you jest, windfarmer!

I know she's announced her candidacy. My first reaction when I heard about it was to laugh out loud. My second reaction was to wonder about her delusion that the voters of Detroit would elect someone so closely involved in the Kilpatrick administration.

Kwame Kilpatrick's mother, U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, barely won her primary election; she's lucky it was a three way race and that she only required a plurality of 40% of the total vote to win. Even in the Detroit precincts, Cheeks Kilpatrick only received 47% of the vote. That's an astoundingly bad showing for an incumbent who hasn't done anything wrong in carrying out the duties of her own elected position.

You would think that Sharon McPhail must surely know that any association with the former Kilpatrick administration is toxic at the ballot box for at least one election cycle.
