Question for all of you - I am interested in juicing and would like to do a juice fast (my body is really off kilter still because of chemo which ended 6 months ago - I'm willing to try just about anything to jump start my metabolism to drop chemo/steroid weight loss, get my tummy working like it did before treatment, and feel more normal) but I work full time and am out of the house for 10 - 13 hours a day between my job, commute, and grad school. Is there any way to transport and store juice I made in the morning to last me through the day? I have 5 small meals a day, 2 while at work (plus occasionally a snack in between breakfast and lunch) so I'd ideally use juice to replace at least one of those meals.
You can jump start your metabolism by weight training. I do not think juicing will jump start anything, but thats not saying you shouldn't do it. You will get lots of great nutrients from juicing.
I would find a container that is leak proof and then pack it a cooler of some sort. I would add some cold packs to make sure it stays cold.
Why not just put the juice in a thermos? We used to put milk in thermoses, and soups, kept them hot/cold all the way through lunchtime.
And if you want to keep it cold for longer, just pour some of the juice in an ice tray the night before, and pack the thermos with fresh juice and juice cubes. By the time it all melts and starts to get room temp again, it's time to pack up and go home for the day anyway.
The con of storing juice is oxidation. Just like peeling an apple and eating it later, the outside turns brown. Well, when you juce, yuo expose the whole fruit to air. Imagine the whole apple even the inside turning brown. Not sure the effect it has on nutrients, but a brown apple is a turn off for me.
I agree with excercise. I don't think juicing jump started my metabolism. Since you are recovering from cancer, I would look at juicing from a nutritional stand point, rather than a weight loss one*. Cut back on processed foods, and concentrate on whole food, plant based meals.
Weight fluctuates naturally every day. It would fluctuate whether you were on a diet or not. What's more indicative, is that in 9 days, you lost 4 pounds.
What that shows me, is that you -could- have included something other than juice in your "juice days," and you -could- have reduced the amount of the other foods on the "food" days and replaced them with juice, and lost the same amount of weight.
In other words, juicing can be useful in weight loss, but there's no reason why anyone should "need" to juice to lose weight.
In fact, if you had eaten the foods that you juiced, instead of drinking only the juice from the foods, you probably would have felt a lot fuller and gotten basically the same amount of nutrition.
Not that there's anything wrong with juicing, but I just don't see how it can be nearly as efficient as eating properly in the first place.

That is great! Congratulations!
