Video about the USDA Food Pyramid; it was never about healthy eating, but instead a tool to encourage consumers to support agribusiness. Instead, it fueled the obesity epidemic.

The food pyramid hasn't been used in years. But yeah, they should not allow ag lobbying when they are going to give advice on diets.

It's a history of why it was developed and what it did to Americans.
Been replaced by "My Plate" which isn't much better; still plenty of grains to keep agribusiness happy.

Remember the huge Got Milk? campaign back in the 90s? They weren't even ads for a specific brand of milk, just...milk.

Did you watch the video? It's interesting no matter what you eat.

I did not. I get my info from people I've previously vetted and trust.

Yup. They're good filler calories. They aren't nutritionally dense per calorie, but if your diet is clean they're a good source of said calories. If you're on the SAAD on the 70% ultra-processed diet for your calories, you definitely don't want to be adding in anymore grains even whole ones. For the remaining 30% of your calories you want to be a nutritionally dense as possible which isn't what whole grains are. Of course, one might argue that the sensible thing would be to stop eating 70% ultra-processed foods. They tend to be grain heavy as, well, grains are cheap. The ultra-processed food business is all about that grains as they're cheap. Grains aren't all Cheez-itz and donuts though.

My eating is pretty darn clean. My processed foods are things like plain greek yogurt. My main goal, aside from keeping an eye on sugar, is nutritionally dense foods. Almost all of our meals are whole foods, cooked from scratch.
