I am on WW and stopped drinking soda/diet soda 1 year ago. I feel better and have replaced it with water or seltzer.

Forget about weight, think about your health. That stuff can't be good for you.

It's been a while since I spent time reading about this but from memory:
  • Artificial sweeteners do not effect insulin levels in your body or cause any biological reaction that is any different to drinking plain water.
  • Diet drinks have no energy in them, which is the same as water.
  • They are generally 80%+ water so you could say they are essentially water, with added chemicals.
  • From a DIET perspective, no, there is no imperative to stop drinking diet soda. If anything, the caffeine in diet soda will help act as an appetite suppressant (very minor - but better than increasing appetite) and can also slightly boost your metabolism, which will also help with weight loss (although possibly negligible).
  • The only hesitations to do with diet soda are associated with the ADDED CHEMICALS and the yet-to-be-proven links to other health concerns, but none are related to weight (e.g. tumors, cancer etc.)
The bottom line is ignore propaganda and continue to enjoy your diet, calorie free, tasty beverage if the chemicals don't bother you.
