Thanks, everyone! Changed days, going from two teenaged dogs who behaved perfectly to two pups! We haven't had a tiny pup since 1998 when we got Jimmy, so I'll probably be looking for advice. This little Teddy is SO small! He was taken from his mama too soon, I think.
At the moment, I would love to start doing some mental exercise with him, maybe some training, but first I have to find something that motivates him more than our other dog! He and Karma might be bonding with each other and not us. She's going to be one year old around April 1, and she has taken on the role of Mama, and she's just a pup herself. I call her KarMama now.
And Bette, I do remember you so well, and I hope you are recovering from your loss. It just takes so long. I miss Jimmy and Hallie still, and I always will.
I am not normally in favor of giving dogs as presents, but I knew Phil wanted a boy, and I did too. I took Karma to meet Teddy first, to make sure. We need new area rugs, so I figured now is the time to housetrain a puppy -- and I am also having to train Phil again. Husbands tend to undo a lot of training, ya know?
The puppy is super cute, but I have to say your husband is the star of the how because it's clear he is a super wonderful, gentle soul.
Hopes, he is my dog whisperer. He is clueless about proper training techniques, but he always gets through to dogs. Kids too. He had a pretty austere childhood in Scotland and never had a dog until 1998 when we got Jimmy. What a waste of a great doggie daddy.
And he never even lets me kill a mouse or an insect around here. If it's living, he loves it.
Very sweet. What a lovely man your husband is! And what a Sweet caring Wife you are! This dog is loved for sure. Thanks for sharing such a sweet video.
What kind of dog is this??
Teddy is a rescue pup, a GSD-Aussie mix, or so they say. You never know, but he does look to have GSD in him. I'll ask the vet tomorrow about his projected adult size, but this little guy's feet aren't all that big. His tail has a curl in it, so we think there might be some husky in him, too. At the moment, he yaps like a Yorkie with separation anxiety, but he's going to get used to being crated for an hour or so at a time. Chasing a puppy around a big house isn't fair to him or us.
He seems to be a really confident little guy. The foster family said that, and so did our neighbors who took him in the first few nights before the surprise. He can really hold his own, with our Karma, and with the neighbors' two full grown standard poodles. Karma is 52 pounds now and strong as a bull, and she was playing tug with Teddy this morning. We're experiencing cuteness overload, for sure!
