Nope- just farting around, scouting and stuff.

Getting Pearl used to being in the boat. Next step getting out and in.

Getting ready for opening pheasant on Saturday. Taking the three amigos 8 hours to a little town called Westby, MT for 6 days of bird nirvana. Pearl will get a chance to really put the training to task.

Pearl did great yesterday! Tough day- she worked for 6 hours but she pointed over a dozen birds. Got two roosters with her.

Found out her nipples are sensitive. Brush really swelled them up. Put some bag balm on them to relieve the pain.

Already ordered a ballistic vest for her. In on Tuesday.

Pretty horrible bird numbers this year. The area we normally hunt looked sterile. Very few pheasants, sharpies, no huns.. NO songbirds, red-wings, ducks or geese. It was a ghost town.

Worked really hard for 3 days- I covered over 30 miles on foot so the dogs really got a work-out. We found maybe 20 pheasants, I managed 4 roosters over 3 days.

In years past- I'd come home with 9 and bag at least 12- eating some while there. I cut the trip short and came home.

But Pearl is just fantastic in the field- very strong field searching and ROCK SOLID pointing. She pointed a group of sharpies and I walked 50 yards in front of her trying to flush them up, but they ran wild and flushed 50 yards from me. She held her point strong.

I managed 2 roosters bagged under her, and I missed 2 roosters under her. I'm really impressed with her natural ability and desire to work and cooperate. And one huge thing- she can work all morning and not be winded. At no point was her tongue hanging out looking exhausted. She's got stamina from hell.

Here's a video of Pearl working with big Schnitzel- they scented a bird but it was running- they were frantically searching for him but Pearl beat the old man and stayed on his butt til she flushed on the hills edge! Pretty funny to watch, but you can see how serious these dogs are on birds...

Nice!

Soon enough she'll figure out how to pin them between you!

She’ll get there. Hunting her solo is the best. My big guy is so head strong he rarely honors another dogs point.

Hunting was so poor we put all noses out though.

Wow, she has become beautiful. Are the DK's normally black, and white like that? I've never seen that coloration before. My GSP was the traditional liver colored patches, with the ticking, and white. Glad she's a good pointer. They are naturals.

Had a nice season with the dogs. We managed a number of sharptail grouse, not too many pheasants, but about 30 geese and 30 or so ducks.

Pearl is going to a friend of ours for some training time- hopefully she does well in Utility Training, which is pretty intense.

She is every bit as head strong, lively and full of pi$$ and vinegar as she was a pup. She's a handful.
