Toys R Us was talking about coming back... that was before the economy crashed. Plans are probably still out there. Taco Bell was suppose to remodel this summer to the prototype... not sure what happened. Shopko will be remodeling. It is suppose to happen in 2009. It will be a major remodel.

I hope it goes in Gander Mt's old space. I feel the mall could get something better for the Champs space. It would also draw a lot of businesses to the Gander Mt site.

You guys were so right! Just received a response from BWW, and it will be going into the old Gander spot. She said they don't yet have a confirmed date, but it will open in the next 6-8 months if all goes according to plan. I'm SO excited! This will be a great spot for them!!!

I just got a reply email too. She said that she there isnt a determined opening date yet and that it is going on Miller Trunk Highway either in or near the Old Gander Mt location. But I have a feeling that it is going in it still being she mentioned the building. I feel like she would have said near Miller Hill Mall if it was going anywhere else.

That's so weird about the different replies. Here is my exact email from BWW:

"I am glad to hear we are making your dream come true! The Duluth, MN Buffalo Wild Wings will be going in on Miller Trunk Highway, in the old Gander Mountain location (well, part of it - that would be a really big Buffalo Wild Wings if we made the entire Gander Mountain into one!). We don't have a confirmed opening date yet, but it will be opening within the next 6-8 months if all goes according to plan!"

Yours seems legit. Ha. Mine seemed like more of a generic email they send out, not as personal as yours! Thats really great that they will be opening in the old GM space. Hopefully this will attract other retailers to fill the space. I wonder if they will be taking the same space they had signed on for a few months ago. I wonder why they pulled out?

How exciting! I've never received anything but a generic reply talking about how they are always actively looking for new locations but have nothing planned. I'd say with the emails you guys got and the job posting online it is pretty much confirmed they are coming here. It is just what duluth needed and I can't wait for it to open.

It will be nice to have a BWW in Duluth because it will give us a Sports Bar type of restaurant. Plus they are pretty big restaurants. They almost remind me of a small Dave and Busters type atmosphere...

Some news regarding the Wieland-Hayes development. I just spoke with a member of my family and they told me that St. Luke's P.S. Rudie Medical Clinic was going to be taking the main floor space next to the Electric Fetus (the area behind the wrought iron fence). I asked if they were taking over ALL of that space, and from what they were told - it was. Several doctors work at that clinic, which is currently in the Medical Arts Building. They would even have X-ray services there, as a satellite St. Luke's clinic.

While I would have VASTLY preferred a restaurant or retail, at least they're getting a good tenant. St. Luke's has a long and happy history with A&L, so I'm sure this is how this came into play.

What are your thoughts on this?

Although it's certainly not my first choice for a tenant in such a great development, it's better than anything. I'll be glad to just see something fill up that area. Even though it's a clinic, it should still liven up the block a bit more.

On a different note, what do you guys think about the hotel proposed for Park Point? I think it's a great idea, although you can imagine the opposition from the "usuals".

Here's a link to the DNT article: Park Point marina proposes 116-room hotel | Duluth News Tribune | Duluth, Minnesota

I saw that article. I think its a great plan! It would be great to get another hotel on Park Pt. What people need to realize is that the kind of development that is going to take place in the future right off the Aerial Lift Bridge is going to be the development of hotels, condos and commercial. The city wants Park Point to become an extension of Canal Park. Canal Park is exhausted in space and so is the entire downtown. Now it all is going to start to expand into Park Point. I am a little curious though about the hotel be run locally and it being built in phases. To me, hotel phases never happen. Only one phase ever gets built. I think the hotel would be better if it was a branded hotel like a Hilton or something. That tends to draw people more. People need to realize that they wont be able to stop development from happening on Park Point. Its going to happen eventually.
