Agreed, WestCobb, Perry seemed as ill prepared as Bachmann in several interviews, or the clown whose name escapes me who lost Senate race in Maryland last year.

My money is on the "anyone but Obama" crowd. Obama has no positives going in if the economy doesn't improve. The stimulas bill and the bailouts will be seen as failures, as well as government motors. Nothing he has done will be a positive. It will be pointed out that he had a super majority for two years and in that time he accomplished nothing.

41 and 42's first terms were not stellar, freightshaker, and 2 inept alternatives led to their reelections. Now with the economy so bad, any moderate GOP candidate wins, but Romney is the only plausable one. If Christie jumps in, or Bloomberg, they can win. But not a TP liked man or woman.

I always look at the GOP candidate that seems to upset liberals the most and, at this time, I would say Perry meets that criteria.

This senior is not afraid of what Perry says about SS because it is true. The fact that Perry was once a Democrat concerns me more than any of his rhetoric.

I agree that his democrat roots bother me and also his stance on immigration matters.. He has been a decent governor all in all and frankly I think that is where he needs to stay. He would not be my first choice as a nominee, but that said, I still say he is a very estute politician and could very well defeat Obama.

That's a mistake then. Liberals were more or less comfortable with George Bush in 2000. He was a compassionate conservative, remember? He upset us so much because weeks after his election, he turned off the bipartisanship rhetoric and went whole-hog con on us.

If republicans nominate Rick Perry as the GOP, Obama will win a second term for sure.

The Left is on the wrong side of nearly every issue, I doubt they would get this right either.

The response from the Left of Perry entering the race has been amusing....they seem so dang scared.

I can only say that if you claim obama will beat Perry, my money would double down on Perry.

Or perhaps you have the right's best intentions at heart?

The key is looking at the electoral map. Senior citizens make up a good portion of one key state and that Florida. All Obama needs to do to win is hold on to the states Kerry won in 2004 (wont be a problem at all because they are liberal strongholds) and win Florida. If senior citizens in Florida are scared of what Perry and the GOP might do to social security, they will vote for Obama. Senior citizens are the most reliable voters and its not so much about jobs to them because they are already retired.
Maybe you should actually learn what Perry's stand on Social Security REALLY is:

"Maintain long-term solvency of Social Security and Medicare.
Perry adopted the National Governors Association position paper:

NGA opposes reductions from current discretionary spending levels or changes that could risk the long-term solvency of the nation’s Social Security and Medicare systems"
Rick Perry on Social Security

Oh ok. So he thinks it's a Ponzi Scheme, but he supports it. So he's for fraud and corruption?
