You think that is bad, look at his posts about gays.
Regardless, no Mormonism isn't a cult, and yes it is a part of Christianity, As far as why Bachmann and Cain were asked, well I'm generally of the opinion we should not be asking religious questions as it relates to politics, we should not engage the two. However, Bachmann and Cain both run on their religion (as does Perry and Santorum) so the question might have some relevance as it related to candidates who make their candidacy about their religion.
Great post. I don't think someone's religion should be an overwhelming factor when deciding on a candidate.
HOWEVER, all those politicians who wear their religion on their sleeve are opening the door to such questions.

Romney does not wear his religion on his sleeve. I never hear him mention it at all actually unless forced into the defensive on it. It does seem his religion is only religion being questioned. I don't think anyone else's that is running is even being discussed.
As a Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the official name of the religion commonly called the Mormon Church. We believe first and foremost that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and the Son of God.
So YES we ARE christians!!!
There is an official web site by our church that answers questions on what we truly believe, our faith, our values, with real people that are members and there testimony's and stories.
Mormon.org
As a member I will say I believe in Christ and am thankful every day for his life, his atonement, and his love.
This is a non-issue, but the progressives need something, anything, everything, to distract from the abysmal results of the Obama administration. Effectiveness is always the key. Not ideology.
Deflection, deflection, deflection. This topic is about the Republican candidates, not Obama. Know the difference.

Your church is buying up huge billboards even in such desolate mormon strongholds as san antonio, tex. Disgusting. Why can't your church use its vast tax exempt funds to help the poor or something worthwhile?
•The World Health Organization estimates that 884 million people worldwide don’t have access to clean water. This is a huge problem in Africa, not only because of water-borne diseases but because kids who spend hours each day walking to and from the nearest well to fill old gasoline cans with water cannot attend school. According to church records, in the past seven years, more than four million Africans in 17 countries have gained access to clean drinking water through Mormon humanitarian efforts to sink or rehabilitate boreholes.
•More than 34,000 physically handicapped African kids now have wheelchairs through the same Mormon-sponsored humanitarian program. To see a legless child whose knuckles have become calloused through walking on his hands lifted into a wheelchair may be the best way to fully understand the liberation this brings.
•Millions of children, meanwhile, have now been vaccinated against killer diseases like measles as the church has sponsored or assisted with projects in 22 African countries.
•Another 52,000 Africans have been trained to help newborns who otherwise would never take a first breath. Training in neonatal resuscitation has also been a big project for Mormons in Africa.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints comprises .2% of the world's population. For our small size, we do an disproportionate amount of good in this world. Our Humanitarian Service ships about 12 million pounds of shoes and clothing, 1 million hygiene kits, and 1 million pounds of medical supplies to relieve suffering in more than 100 countries every year. This is all done with no strings attached. Those who benefit from our donations are, almost exclusively, not members of our Church.
As a matter of fact, back when the tsunami hit Southeast Asia the day after Christmas, 2004, after we sent food, clothing and medical supplies, we asked the government there, "What else can we do?" They told us that the only other thing the people really needed was spiritual sustanance. Almost all of the people whose lives were affected by the tsunami were Muslim. In the devastation of the tsunami, almost all of them had lost their Korans. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints immediately shipped thousands of copies of the Koran to the area.
Hate to agree with you but you aer 100% right. It is those on the very far of the right side (the truely religious, Christian fundamentalists) that are bringing the issue of religion to the surface, but some of those people are Democrats as well.
Nita
No its not Democrats, well at least not ones that vote for Democrats (some remaining Dixiecrats perhaps). This is soley from the fundy side of the GOP (which is the base of the base right now)

Actually, polls indicate that Democrats are even less likely to support a Mormon than Republicans are. Of course, in this particular race, that's not going to be an issue, since most Deomcrats will be voting for Obama. It's really those at both ends of the political spectrum who are anti-Mormon. Moderates of either party don't seem to have a problem with people's religious beliefs.
