Both were fairly close. Not something you would expect from a solid voting ethnic group. Besides the state of Connecticut is the most Italian in the country and that went 61-39% for Democrats. With New Haven county 25% Italian voting 61-38 for Obama As I said if Italians were monolithic Republican you would not see close and blowout Democratic votes where they live.

And I'm sure the whole "marriage" between the GOP and Fundamentalist Christianity hasn't helped any (although there are those "christians" who support Israel... in order to hasten the Apocalypse)!
It appears you really do not understand the Jewish religion or culture. Your reasoning is pretty much off base or it appears to be. May I also all, more Jews are voting Republican than in the past and those who are Republicans are very conservative. The OP does post an interesting question though. Having a few Jews in our immediate family I would guess it has more to do with urban versus rural living. The larger cities, are where the majority of Jewish immegrants settled when coming to America. Larger cities are normally more liberal thinking.. As the children have started marring out of the religion and more and more are moving from the larger cities (especially the east coast cities) you are seeing more varied opinions on politics. The GOP and the Christian conservatives have little to do with how the Jews vote. I can also assure you just as many, if not more Christians conservatiove support Isreal than many of the liberals. Don't get me wrong, I do not think the majority of Jews have become Republicans or will in the next decade, but the pendulum is swinging that way.

We all know about every minority group in the country voted for Obama in 2008, but that doesn't mean they are all Democrats, or liberals. It means they were sold a bill of goods.

Whodda thunk we'd have such an "expert" here on everything from "Jews" to "California"... and living in "Possum Holler, AR" (sorry, "Belle Vista".... a retirement town with virtually Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site
, located in the very state where the KKK began)?!

Of course, the ways things are lookin', Obama's gonna receive the "minority vote" again, and even worse, pretty soon you're gonna be "surrounded"....

1 thing people need to know is that Jews are pretty rare here in the US. Maybe 6 million, tops? Not all of them are voters either cause of being too young and so on.

I'd rather live with a bunch of Jewish people than hood rats, illegal aliens or even shanty Irish. Yes, some of us are still drunks and fools.

Within the next two decades they will become more Republican. The Jews have historically done better than previous generations. Just go into nearly every Jewish neighborhood in NY, nearly none of them give you a hint of being poor. Even the Ultra Orthodox are jumping in and finally building better homes.

Didn't my people flee Eastern Europe for religious freedom? So how on earth could I justify voting for that party, when they'd love nothing more than to see us become a Christian nation? It certainly isn't the only reason I won't vote Rep, but it does play a big role in my leanings.
It seems to me we get to choose between Christian theocrats vs. a rigid secularist ideology (sort of a sneakier and more subtle version of what the Soviets did to religion). I don't think either one is a good thing. And BTW, I think the liberal press deliberately plays up the fundamentalists in the Republican party to make the party look bad. I'm not saying the Reps. aren't overly dominated by fundamentalists. I'm just saying it's exaggerated by the press because we all know 90% of journalists vote Democrat and that definitely bleeds through in their "reporting".

This is kinda what I think. Jews tend to be smarter than average financially, but they vote strongly for Democrats. I know our last Republican president wasn't a fiscal conservative....but Obama is even worse. The Reps. are still the lesser evil when it comes to government spending, IMO. Just look at all the states with chronic budget problems: California, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Illinois, etc. They're all Democrat dominated states.

That's true, but their influence is larger than their numbers because they generally have more education, more money, are more likely to be in key positions of power and influence, and vote in larger percentages than other groups.
