I don't think, despite his threats, Trump will run independent, eventually he'll decide he's wasting his money. Why on Earth would the GOP leave Kasich off any state ballots? If Kasich is the nominee he is the most likely to win. If not him, then Hillary.
They would leave him off ballots so that he doesn't compete directly with Trump in too many states. The goal is for SOMEONE other than Clinton to win the states. Kasich wouldn't care about winning more than 1 state just so he is on the ballot when it goes to Congress. He might just be on the ballot in Ohio and maybe a few states where Trump is weak.

Remember, we are talking about stealing an election here, not winning it.

Hillary has played nice against Bernie...because she doesn't want the mountain of her dirt aired.

Hillary has a mountain of dirt, Kasich a mound of dirt. Hillary knows better...with Trump she would be forced to throw dirt, because his mountain may be bigger.

Won't happen as even if nominated, the reality would be the many Cruz and most Trump supporters would not vote for him either staying home or voting for an independent thus a victory for Hillary and a whole lot of hostility toward the GOP that will fall upon other GOP candidates that are running for the Senate and the House.

Plus, Kasich will make illegals "legal" per himself in his first 100 days. Cost of amnesty to US taxpayers? $6.3 trillion dollars.

You are ignoring some major facts.

#1 Kasich polls better than Trump nationally. Kasich is beating Hillary in a landslide. Hillary is beating Trump in a landslide.

#2 48 states are simple winner (plurality) take all. Meaning if Kasich got 34, Hillary got 33, and Trump got 33 - Kasich wins it.

#3 Trump and Kasich don't have total overlap.
-A) Trump would pull in millions of formerly non-voters (fine for Kasich in your scenario).
-B) Many GOP voters will stay home, vote for Hillary/3rd Party if Trump gets the bid.
-C) Trump pulls in a lot of Union workers who would otherwise vote Hillary.

#4 Kasich would have more resources -- GOP money...Trump won't waste his money on a fools errand.

I think Kasich and HRC would have substantive debates, on the issues, and without all the BS theatrics we've seen thus far.

Kasich has a lot of dirty linen that is unknown to most of the nation and even to Ohioans, as Ohio's journalism community is pathetically bad. Things will change when Democrats do opposition research.

How many women will vote for Kasich when they hear about his rape counselor gag law against discussing abortion options? Yet Kasich tried to pass himself off as a "moderate" on abortion rights and his defunding of Planned Parenthood women's health services (PP abortion services already were defunded).

The gag rule Kasich doesn't want to talk about | MSNBC

Here's the Latest Ohio Anti-Abortion Bill Kasich Signed into Law | Mother Jones

Note in the immediately preceding article a similar de-funding bill in Texas resulted in an increase in birth rates among low-income mothers, likely increasing the burden on Medicaid and other welfare services.

Hillary will eviscerate Kasich in a debate. And I'm not a fan of Hillary.

Since they both agree on amnesty, one of the hottest issues, I am sure that would help.

Hillary would eat Kasich alive as an appetizer and then finish her meal with the moderators!

Exactly, no one spends any time on anyone as non-threatening as Kasich. I'm sure there are plenty of skeletons in his closet.

3. Trump runs as an Independent
4. Hillary wins a plurality in the electoral college, but fails to get to 270. Kasich wins Ohio and maybe 1-3 other states. The GOP keeps him off the ballot in many states, letting Trump win.
5. The election goes to the newly elected Congress and they vote for Kasich

Our newly elected President is sworn in with something like 25% of the popular vote.
Your theory here is pure conjecture..... And highly flawed by the simple fact that you nor Michiganmoon know exactly what the disenfranchised Trump/Cruz voters/supporters will do in the event that the first part of the scenario you have proposed actually plays out.

How could you or anyone else ever believe that Trump has more skeletons than the Clinton's/Hilliary.

That's insanity.
