I don't know if this example counts as being played. If you feel like the media is rigged, you can find the information through legitimate sources. I would think this counts as playing yourself. The problem is that many search for a different message when reality doesn't meet their personal view. Facts are facts, but many want the facts to match their preconceived bias. Trump's message resonated with a large portion of his base, and that same message is killing him in the general. It is the audience, not the message that changed.
