What a contrast... on one hand you have Sarah Palin who advocates the aerial slaughtering of wolves, giving out a bounty for their paws. Then you have Obama, already endorsed by the Humane Society, now ready and willing to save a life. Saving lives seems to be a foreign concept to Republicans ...be it animal or human.

Michelle Obama pledged on Entertainment Tonight that when the family gets a dog -- Barack Obama promised one to his daughters once the campaign is over -- it will be a rescue dog from a shelter.

advocating slaughtering of wolves? isn't it just population control? they do that for all animals everywhere. if they don't, the wolves get sick and starve, or wander into town and attack people. I won't mention the irony of supporting late term abortion, being anti death penalty, and saving the lives of animals. get consistent people! I'm all about kill kill kill.

He will announce on national TV that he is going to rescue a dog from a shelter....while his brother lives in a hut in Kenya and he has done nothing to help him. Hmmmm....

And huffington post? Of COURSE they would come up with some lame story as if it is somethng magnanamous. Is he his brother's keeper? No.

There's no reason for them to be killing wolves other than--by eliminating a large percentage of wolves--to make a more bountiful hunt for humans. But I am not a one issue voter. I'm voting for someone on the bigger issues and intend--as should we all--to fight them once they're in office on the other issues--such as aerial wolf hunting and the polar bears. Prioritize! I'm still voting for McCain.

Patt Morrison: Wagging the Rescue Dog Vote

wonderful post. So positive too, unlike all the negative bs and smear from the other side, I dont know how Repubs can live with all the lies they create, it is really physically sickening to most of us.

The Humane Society has never before endorsed a presidential candidate...until now. They had this to say about Sarah Palin:

Quote:
While McCain's positions on animal protection have been lukewarm, his choice of running mate cemented our decision to oppose his ticket. Gov. Sarah Palin's (R-Alaska) retrograde policies on animal welfare and conservation have led to an all-out war on Alaska's wolves and other creatures. Her record is so extreme that she has perhaps done more harm to animals than any other current governor in the United States.

Palin engineered a campaign of shooting predators from airplanes and helicopters, in order to artificially boost the populations of moose and caribou for trophy hunters. She offered a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf as an economic incentive for pilots and aerial gunners to kill more of the animals, even though Alaska voters had twice approved a ban on the practice. This year, the issue was up again for a vote of the people, and Palin led the fight against it -- in fact, she helped to spend $400,000 of public funds to defeat the initiative.
