Obama to lay out guidelines to overhaul earmarks - CNN.com

So now signing behind closed doors to hide from the fact that he again broke a campaign promiss and to sneak out after getting all the pork on our plate! What a disappointment this man is...more than I ever could have imagined!!!

Earmarks a result of the money you pay in taxes to the federal government, states believe they have a right to some of that money to be given back to the states. That is earmarks, doesnt matter what is in them the states want a piece of your federal taxes you pay which is generated from the state workforce.
But maybe we should stop giving all that money to the federal government and put the money where it belongs in your pocket. They ignore our country is in debt and they ignore your rights in general and write more laws with your money to restrict your income and personal life.
So why are you surprised we are broke, have limited ecomomic freedom and every 4 years we have a choice of 2 piles of crap to vote for.
Obama, Bush, Clinton all the same piles of crap who care more about how they can waste your money to "fix" problems they created in the first place.
Basically they steal from you to pay for all the stupid decisions they make in the name of compassion and ask you to do with less so they dont have too.

Yup. Paulson, BUSH'S BOY in the BUSH administration did just that!
You do know that was the Paulson/Geithner plan, right?

Obama Picks N.Y. Fed President Geithner as Treasury Secretary - washingtonpost.com

"The Paulson/Geithner bailout model as manifest by the AIG situation is untenable and illustrates why President-elect Obama badly needs a new face at Treasury. A face with real financial credentials, somebody like Fannie Mae CEO (as of Sept. 8, 2008) Herb Allison. A banker with real world transactional experience, somebody who will know precisely how to deal with the last bubble that needs to be lanced - CDS.....

President-elect Obama and the American people have a choice: embrace financial sanity and safety and soundness by deflating the last, biggest speculative bubble using the time-tested mechanism of insolvency. Or we can muddle along for the next decade or more, using the Paulson/Geithner model of financial rescue for the AIG CDS Ponzi scheme and embrace the Japanese model of economic stagnation...."
The Institutional Risk Analyst: What Barack Obama Needs to Know About Tim Geithner, the AIG Fiasco and Citigroup

"...Mr. Geithner’s involvement in several ultimately ill-fated efforts to buttress the American financial system is the very reason some Wall Street C.E.O.’s — a number of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of piquing the man who regulates them — question whether he’s up to the challenge....

...Mr. Geithner also oversaw and regulated an entire industry whose decline has delivered a further blow to an already weakened American economy. Under his watch, some of the biggest institutions that were the responsibility of the New York Fed — Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and most recently, Citigroup — faltered."

Meanwhile, just as he promised he would do during the campaign and since the election YOUR President will be laying out his ideas for ways in which the Congress can put the earmark process onto better and more transparent ground. Earmarks are a legislative matter so he doesn't have any final say, but he can set targets and objectives that he thinks those on the hill should pursue. We'll see how that works out, your guys random complaints about whatever happens as the result being duly ignored and discarded along the way. Make yourselves irrelevant and that is what you will be...
he could have simply vetoed all of the earmarks .....

First of all, this is Bush's final budget.
It was supposed to be funding for FY09; obviously it's not yet passed.
It was supposed to be passed last summer so that agencies would not be running on continuing resolutions that fund them at prior year levels.
What this means is that there is no funding to purchase safety equipment and clothing for soldiers, that agencies cannot meet the requirements of their mission. This would also include no funding for tanks and munitions as required.

Apparently, many of you have no idea how the federal budget process works.
Here's a few links that you can peruse to educate yourself:

Introduction to the Federal Budget Process, Revised 12/3/07
Federal Budget Process
http://www.communitiescommittee.org/pdfs/fed_budget.pdf
http://budget.house.gov/crs-reports/98-721.pdf (broken link)

The FY10 budget is Obama's first budget.

You're blaming Obama for Bush's budget.
Nice.

chielgirl correct! this is Dubya's budget and they want to continue to blame Obama even though he wasn't in office until 50+ plus odd days ago.

Yes much of the earmarks are from Republicans.

Obama had some too as well as many Democrats.

Calling them all pork is just ignorance.

Is there pork in there? Most likely.

Can the system be improved? Yes. Is that what Obama is taking steps towards. Yes. Are you against "pork" Yes. Then what's the problem?

Contrived nonsense about 2% of the budget.

No, not actually. He could have vetoed the entire bill. That's it. You need to learn more about how your government actually works.

By the way, when did Tim Geithner work at Goldman-Sachs?

Whatever they might think about Bush..everyday that passes it will look more stupid to even mention Bush his name....I guess Obama likes to be "Carter", so he can battle for who is the worst president in history and how fast can I become the worst president.....I have to agree Obama is winning this one ...if it wasn't so sad I would even think it is funny!
