I am looking into the possibility of moving to Florence Oregon and was wondering if mold was an issue (especially in the local housing) due to the coastal climate. I am really allergic to mold!

No more so then most places in Western Oregon. Is it there? Yes. More than anywhere else? Not really.

The climate is wet, so yes, mold grows there.

The coastal area is not the only wet area of Oregon. In fact it isn't the only wet area in the country. Mold goes more hand in hand with humidity and warmth. Something the Coast lacks. You want mold, go to anywhere in the South where it eats the buildings, or Arizona.

Yes, it is an issue. The moist coastal climate puts moisture everywhere. In a warm wet winter house there can be mold. Bleach is good. If you are hyper-sensitive to mold, you may have problems with anything but a very new very clean house there.

I live in the Coast Range a bit east of Florence, avg 100 inches of rain a year. There is mold, mildew, moss everywhere. The best defense against mold is a good cheery wood-stove. Dries the air and soothes the soul. Great for our winter outages too!

Sounds to me as if every home in this area is full of musty molds that can kill you in some cases so the best thing to do is avoid this area of the USA entirely. I'm guessing by what I'm reading as soon as you step foot into someone's home that has mold the first thing you smell is a musty smell like an old sea going wood vessel and that's a clear sign of not to buy or visit very long. Does everyone in this area have to run dehumidifier 24-7-365?

I light a fire almost every night when I'm at my home in Florence; as someone mentioned above, wood stoves are excellent for removing humidity from the air. It's also important to open windows to promote air circulation. There isn't any mold in my home. Same thing with my house in SE Alaska, where it rains even more than here.

Mold exists everywhere and is constantly encountered. There are approximately 99,000 known species. We breathe in mold spores all the time. Sounds like Sinusitis is the problem, have a doctor seek Solutions for mold allergies and illnesses.
