But politics has nothing to do with Geography. Iceland is culturally and historically part of Europe, Russia is culturally and historically part of Europe also.
Most educated ''folk'' consider everything west of the Ural mountains has Europe.

To come back to the initial subject I'll post here something that I wanted to put in a discussion I has with "neuling", but I think it has more its place here.

This is a map that shows the different EU countries in their position repecting their relative north-south and east-west location, but with surfaces that correspond with their population weight:




The central point of EU population is about between Nurmberg and Munich. Neuling; the huge majority is much further north of it...
