I'm curious what most Europeans think of skyscrapers. Opinions will vary, so I'm interested in hearing different ones.

Do you find them aesthetically ugly/beautiful? Does it depend on the design? What are some of your favourites? Do you find skyscrapers in American and Asian cities a novelty/interesting? Or do they leave you cold?

How do you feel about skyscrapers in European cities? Personally, I feel a city can have both history and a skyline. As long as the buildings don't block the old churches and other monuments I think one can blend old and new. Paris' La Defense or the City of London are good examples of a financial centre with tall buildings away from the historic-cultural centre. Most European cities with skylines (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Warsaw) seem to have the new area with all the tall buildings away from the cultural centre. Although I don't know how I'd feel about Rome having an American-style skyline. It probably suits some cities better than others.

I think they should be confined where they belong to - to the New World.
( I know nothing about the Asian cities in this respect - sorry.)

Happy New Year, everyone)))

I'm not a big fan of them. And there is an unwritten law to not build them in Scandinavia, with Turning Torso in Malmö (tallest one in Scandinavia) being one major exception. I like the old Europe, skyscrapers for me is the new world (North & South America, Australia etc).

Hong Kong's skyline is a thing of beauty, to me, especially at night.

For me, it depends on the city. They are building some in the 22. district for quite some while now. Cool with me as long as they don't try to do that in the city centre.

It depends.
NYC have a great skyline, but Turning Torso is one of the ugliest buildings in Sweden.

I am baffled by these constant questions about 'most' Europeans. Many countries with different cultures and there is supposed to be some definitive answer to what 'most' Europeans think of 'just about anything'.

Love them, especially when they are close to each other like in Downtown and Midtown Manhattan.
