Curiously enough, P.R. were not denying any religion. They were protesting against the hypocrisy of Russian church and Putin, whom it serves. So it's a different thing. After all, it was a PRAYER. They've asked "mother of god" to remove Putin. The song/action were as political as it gets of course.
And that's why they were prosecuted.
Now how I personally feel about them has nothing to do with it.
As I've said, facts are facts.

The church backs up the rich and powerful, while teaching the rest to submit and to accept it.
While interestingly enough Orthodoxy is essential to Russian identity and unification of the country, Russian church never played the same "community organizing" role as it was in America.
