I don't understand you. What exactly is untrue? Which cultural difference?

I was with a Danish family this morning while commuting. They looked so quiet and courteous. They clecerly disposed of their luggage so as not to be a hindrance to commuters like me. So refreshing compared to my noisy fellow citizens (or Latin people in general , not to speak of africans , etc) who talk loud, occupy a lot of space without giving a damn about other people, etc. That's what all civilization is about . Not blabbering loud and sayintg "thank you " and "please" all the time ("commedia francese") but just fitting in discreetly. I just love it.

I think the happiest population must be in some environment like Carribean archipelagoes. Even here in Romania, the cold season, with its lack of foliage and short days, is quite depressing.

Eat C and D vitamin, take light therapy, make pilates, yoga or other meditative sport or meditation. Don't focus on dark, focus on things that you can see in the dark (= stars, candles etc.).

Wear enough clothes to avoid cold.

People can be happy in cold , dark and horrible environments if they focus on see the humorous sides of things. It is never too late to turn your thinking and start to enjoy middle of crappy situations.

Let me tell you a thing: Problems will never go away. Therefore you have to learn to take those moments meanwhile problems are on. Just seek the good moments and appreciate them. Don't hold problems and negative things, they will never leave you, they will always find you. So be happy happy and don't worry, your problems are not going to leave you meanwhile you are happy. So free yourself to be happy

Is not life in Eastern Europe always quite depressing?

Yeah, you know, people waiting in lines around the block for a few oranges or rolls of toilet paper, shopping for basics in stores with bare shelves, sewing their own fashions from government-issue fabrics because there's nothing modern and fashionable in the stores, risking arrest for buying a Beatles album on the black market.....

We can speculate everything, but it is factual that Denmark has higher Anti-depressant consumption than most countries.

It doesn't really make much sense to me. A supposedly happy country with a high intake of such drugs... So, I would say no...

Danish people (and other scandinavians, and scandinavian-americans) will always tell others they are happy, even when they aren't.

Thanks for the advices buuuut ... I'm a very happy and emotionally stable person (as I have a perfect physical health as well), I haven't had something resembling a sadness episode (am not sure what depression is) in the last 18 years or so. When I said that the cold season is depressing, I was thinking at the lack of exuberant feeling from spring and summer, especially from the period when the days are the longest. So it was not a real depression.

On the other hand, most Romanians, different from me, are some of the saddest people on earth. This comes from their inability to adapt to the capitalist society, which makes most of them poor.

EE is very varied, each country has also big differences between zones or cities. Rationally, there are less reasons to be depressed in EE than in WE: less pollution, little or almost no imigrants (except for Russia), healthier nature and food.

But few people have a rational aproach of things. Most EE are still believing that the West is better than their countries and together with personal problems, they are often in a sad mood.
