The European left started supporting Islam as a counterweight to the US/Israel connection. Anything that is against the US and Israel must be good. To oppose the US is the main goal. They even supported Pol-Pot and Stalin.
You have to remember that the European left has strings to totalitarian communism, and still does. This is seen in how they control the media in Western-Europe, and also how they promote the Syrian situation.
its a subset of the left which hold those views , this subset however is very prominent in the european media
the traditional working class who were ( still are ) employed in industry have little time for such views

I think this is probably right. The European Left, speaking very generally, tends to be anti-American, and definitely anti-Israel (and probably anti-Semitic). Since Hamas/Hezbollah and the like are sworn enemies of the U.S., Israel, and Jews worldwide, the European Left naturally gravitates to these terrorist organizations.
And since antisemitism is increasingly central to their worldview, radical Islam is generally appealing to the European left. Someone like Jeremy Corbyn probably has no problem with welcoming Al Qaeda or ISIS, but regular Jews from New York or Tel Aviv, forget it.
Ironic because the European Left is almost totally atheist/agnostic at this point, yet they're in bed with religious radicals.

The American Right uses the Middle East as a business transaction; they have no love for Muslims. The American Left on the other hand preaches tolerance and is relatively accepting of Islamic culture.
So when the romano-bulgarians were set to "storm" Anglia/Germany and the other western european nations in 2013 - the western europeans were complaining how "homophobic and primitive bulgars are". While, today millions of Muslims do indeed storm western europe and there are pro-muslim protests already in in these countries. Where were the pro-bulgarian protests in England 2 years ago?? Are Muslims more gay friendly compared to southern europeans then? I doubt it. Those Liberal-westerners should just kill themselves really.
