Well, in view of my contacts with people from marketing, management, and communication backgrounds I prefer the engineer mentality anytime

That only means that your mentality matches / is similar to the mentality of engineers.

Once again, I've nothing against engineers. My father was one and I studied engineering myself.

Indeed, I prefer it because I feel there is some substance to it that I miss in other areas...
Accordingly, I respect engineers, but I have never taken marketing or management people seriously.

I respect engineers, too. But also doctors and other professionals.

Look, I know we hijacked the thread and we need to stop, but don't we also need marketing and management people? By the way, I'm not working in marketing or management areas. Just trying to be reasonable.

We were not talking about doctors. Of course I respect doctors, well, most of them anyway, except certain shrinks maybe.
In German there is the distinction between soft and hard disciplines. That pretty much matches my views.

I mentioned doctors just as an example, to make a point.

Are you actually saying that because you are a German you cannot think outside the box?

Are you admitting that you are just a product of the environment you grew in, therefore your views ?

No, I have had that view before I even knew of that distinction, which is not official anyway, it is what people say, and I happen to agree with them in this respect. There is obviously a good reason why people have come up with that distinction.

OK. Das war mir ein Vergnügen! Lass uns bitte das Thema beenden.

Wie ich schon gesagt habe, habe ich nichts gegen Engenieurs. Ganz nette Leute aber ab und zu trifft man auch einen anständigen BWLer.

Anyway, like in the US, college towns are good places to live, Göttingen for instance. Lots of young people (by German standards), thus a certain amount of night life and open-mindedness, better infrastructure, etc.
