cheapest big cities I have been to are:


Bratislava, Slovakia
Budapest, Hungary
Krakow, Poland
Prague, Czech Republic
also been to a few places in Slovenia and its pretty cheap there as well.

East Europe countries may be cheap (Bulgaria,Romania,Ukraine...).

I like Budapest. It seems like a very nice city with a cheap cost of living. It's also central with easy access to either Eastern or Western Europe. It's big enough to have everything you'd want but it's not unmanageable. There's also a young vibe to the place. It's much more vibrant than Sophia in my experience and less stuffy than Vienna. It's not as touristy as Prague.

Exactly, I was very turned-off by how touristy Prague was, and I expected it to be touristy. Budapest has tourists but I honestly barely noticed them away from places like the Parliament Building. It's a big enough city that it can absorb the tourists it receives. The tourists are inescapable in Prague.

Yeah Prague for me didn't feel like a real city for the most part. The old town district just felt like a complete theme park, and the other side of the river felt like a small town in the middle of nowhere with all the hills. The only part that felt like an European capital is the Jewish quarter imo.

Budapest definitely felt more like in the real world.
