I feel the same whenever I see the ****ing long queues and wait lists in expensive restaurants in Taiwan and the jaw-dropping number of people traveling overseas.
It has to do with "tax evasion". When citizens evade taxes, those funds go into private spending and...in many cases serves to reactivate the economy more than public spanding.
Northern Italy is socially backwards compared to Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Germany and even Austria or Switzerland. Northern Italy would be more comparable to industrial areas of france.
GDP and GDP per capita is not a measure of wealth. Look AT Ireland! You just need to have Big companies In a small area to have a high GDP.
Austria and Germany are actually poor nations. Only Norway and Switzerland Could be considered as Rich as France and the UK in terms of wealth.
Wealth is measured by
Net Worth or Wealth = Gross Assets - liabilities
Switzerland, Norway, the UK and France are far above the rest of the world
You can be billionaire and produce 0 in terms of GDP. Does it mean you are poor? NO...
In terms of net wealth (wealth - liability), France ranks n4 among 34 OECD countries, after Australia, Luxembourg (a micro state which shouldn't count) and Belgium.
France's median net wealth is $142k, compared with $49k for Germany and 57k for Australia. Interestingly, Norway and Switzerland have about 95K, far less than France or even Italy. US is even poorer, with only $45k, half of Canadians (90K).
The Credit Suisse report puts France (141k) at n5 slightly after Italy, (142K) but the general ranking is consistent, with Germany (54k) and US (53k) ranked much lower.

That means America is extremely unequal, not less wealthy. Mean wealth of America is amongst the highest in the world, only lower than Switzerland, far higher than France and Italy.
No, despite being wealthier and less corrupt than the South, it's still Italy. The mentality isn't ideal. Differences with Austria, Switzerland and Germany are obvious when you cross the boarder.

Difference is also obvious when you go south of Rome.
I think Italy should be broken into two countries. Will be good for both. The south should not be part of the euro zone and therefore may have a chance to develop. Right now, it is just hopeless.

we all know median matter more than "average". A few billionaires don't make a country wealthy.
By this logic then China is essentially impoverished.
Median is more important on measuring a society's well-being, but in terms of "who's wealthier", average is the answer.
You have the wrong impression that by trashing China you are hurting me. I don't mind critizing China at all as long as it is fair and objective and based on good understanding (not the kneel jerk reaction about "communism" "dictator" etc. Only unintelligent people would rely on those labels to understand a massive country)
China on average, IS a poor country and part of it is indeed impoverished. The wealthy coastal regions are only a small part of it and hardly represent how most Chinese people live.
"Average is the answer" -- thanks, professor.
