It's in a Northern League (who's pursuing these kind of policies anywhere they are being elected) controlled city although Verona's mayor broke away from it because it doesn't pursue federalist (at least not as much as he'd prefer) and socialist policies anymore having turned into more of a right wing party instead of a catch all one.

I would agree with you. It was my impression that the issue isn't so much the cuisine as it is little fast food stands and the unattractive ways these are set up in large numbers, taking away from the beauty of the city.

That's a fine sentiment if the local cuisine is good. Italians are blessed in that regard. The English had no problem replacing the local cuisine with chicken tikka.
