The Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and Finland) had a chance to create a union in the 1960s, but they blew it. It would have made perfect sense, because there was already cultural, historical, and monetary cohesion. Instead Scandinavia got split up by the "Common Market," later the EU.
What does the UK and the Nordic countries have in common? Bad weather?
makes sense to form a union with Canada, Australia and New Zealand. At least they have the same language, similar political and legal system, culture and share the same head of state.
With the exception of being subtly racist and fear of Islam, they have very little in common in social development.
Scandinavians believe in a welfare state paid for by higher taxes, and the UK believes every man for himself with lower taxes!
Scandinavians are less prudent talking about nudity or explaining safe sex to children still in elementary school thus having less teenage pregnancies, while UK is aghast to even talk about it in schools.
No way we will create any union with the UK. And Sweden and Finland have a gentleman's agreement that we won't do any drastic geopolitical changes without mutual consent. During the Cold War Sweden didn't join the EU or NATO because of course domestic interests, but also as loyality to Finland.
Well spoken. Sweden and Finland stick together. The Nordic countries can however form a union with Germany and perhaps Austria.
I think if Brexit happens this is gonna happen as well.
All these countries have great relations with the UK.
We can also add Ireland and Iceland to them and there you go!!!
You have a union.
And i think it would be a democratic, proper union not like EU.
Hey, that union sounds great, but have you considered a union with the US and Canada? We can call it the Atlantic Union or AU for short. I'm an American looking for options if Trump becomes president. I'd love be able to move to the UK or Canada at will. You'all of course would be welcome to come to the US too.

Danes are contrarians; however, all but two political parties (far left and far right) support the EU. Denmark has kept its currency and its central bank, but the value of the danish kroner is tied closely to the Euro. Denmark has also opted out of some of the EC lawmaking provisions. But leave the EU...I don't think so.
Scandinavian countries have great indicators but little geopolitical power, even when together.
The UK would dominate that bloc so it wouldn't really make sense. It will be a bit like Scandinavia + Scotland + R.O Ireland vs England and Wales. Scottish Nationalists will definitely become more mouthy in that bloc, as if they're not enough already.

You're quite wrong. The Nordic Countries pull already much more weight internationally than their size would warrant (except for maybe Iceland, who liked to play Greece). If united, the Nordics would be the 12th largest economy in the world, and if using 1.5% of the GDP on military, the new Kalmar Union would be the 11th largest military spender globally.
So definitely the union would be a big global player.
