I find it hard to believe that all DE blades rip your face apart. Maybe you were using low end ones or don't know how to shave. The feather edge blades are extremely high quality. Have you tried straight edge? You never need to buy replacements.
Profit, definitely. However, the 4 or 5-blade razors (whatever they are), work pretty well. They last me for weeks. I shave every 2-3 days, but I have a heavy beard and I also shave my head. I usually buy the Target store brand of 5-blade razors, orange colored handles. Unlike the store brands of 2-blade razors which turn my skin into ground beef, the 5 blade store brands seem to work just as well as the brand name. I use Trader Joe's shaving cream in a bottle with a green top, not sure if that makes any difference. Since I have been using this combination I have had basically zero razor burn or cuts.

Target brand huh (UP&UP?). Most store brands I have tried were a nightmare, maybe I will give Target a try. I also shave my head, 2 blades does not really work very good.....youch.
I've bought the Mach 3 refill cartridges for years now, but can't get over why they are so expensive and getting more so over the years.
Are they made of something really valuable or is Gillette just greedy?
I found a great blog on this a couple of years ago when I was just realizing how much these things had gone up in the last few years. (And by the way, it's not just mens blades...it's ALL of them.) I can't find the exact article now, but it was a scathing commentary on the greed of Gillette and the other companies. Absolutely ridiculous how much they are charging now.
