I second the Bag Balm. A & D ointment would work as well. You said this just started up, so is it weather related or is this contact dermatitis from exposure to something you have a sensitivity to?
If this is some sort of an allergic reaction, see if you can find some grape-seed extract. Even better? AND cheaper?.....head down to a grocery store and see if you can find some grape-seed oil...100%, in your cooking oil section. Grape-seed is loaded with antioxidants AND has antihistamine properties. Use it to cook, use it as body oil, make essential oils from it, use it in dressings and sauces, etc.
I developed MCS several years ago and it took me almost a year, to figure out what was going on. I started tracking down the culprits, then realized that it must me ME that needed to get things straightened out. I mean.....after all, good grief, you can't live in a bubble!
I started taking GSE on a regular basis and started wearing gloves a little more often, when dealing with strong chemicals. LOL I know....common sense, right? Well...for a while, I was too sensitive to wear gloves.....because THEY were breaking me out!
You should make your dermatologist appointment since you probably have some kind of eczema and this can be prevented with proper care. In the mean time try to avoid washing your hands too much (hand sanitizer is actually better for excema, especially if ou can find the liquid kind rather than the gel). Get some cortisone cream and use twice a day and put on something like Vaseline every time you have to wash your hands. It will be sticky, but bleeding knuckles is uncool and can get infected easily! Btw, this is a common problem for people with dry skin in cold climates. Oh, and always, always wear gloves when it's cold outside.
The bleeding and burning has been alleviated now thanks to Neosporin. However, my skin is as dry as the Atacama desert inspite of applying lotion after shower. My mom is really worried about this as it has never happened to me before. I handle metals like Indium and corrosive organic complexes while doing tests in the lab as an undergraduate researcher, but without fail put on thick safety gloves and other protective equipment to avoid eye, skin & body damage. I wonder why this problem has exacerbated in the past few days.
I have an urgent issue to deal with right now. For the past several hours my knuckles are turning incredibly dry, burning, and then bleeding. I used dry skin lotion to prevent it. However, lotion has no effect and this problem just keeps recurring. The burning and bleeding combined feels very painful . Is it best for me to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist ASAP or should I try out a simple remedy at home. I want this dry skin burning and bleeding on my knuckles to stop because it makes doing things with my hands almost impossible. Please advice me on what to do.
At that point, you might want to seek professional help with that. We are not dermatologists and doctors on here.

Adi, have they recently changed the brand or type of gloves that you're wearing at work? It's entirely possible that the dry skin has irritated your sking and the gloves are making the problem worse. As a nurse, I can tell you....a change in brands of glove, can have terrible consequences for some people.
I have the same issue. I have switched to hand sanitizer that contains aloe (I work in a close office, sanitizer is a must) ... and I use cornhuskers lotion. Still dry hands but not painful and cracking. If you are getting scaling of the skin it might be another issue for a dermatologist to diagnose, psoriasis, eczema, etc. I have eczema (not on hands) and it is accompanied by itchiness and almost a hive appearance. Dry air and stress cause it to flare up.
Go buy Bag Balm. You can usually find it at Walgreens or a similar type of place. You can also order it online. It's fantastic. It's so dry where I live, that my knuckles and hands can easily crack - Bag Balm takes care of the problem.
Bag balm is wonderful for dry, cracked skin. I've had split and bleeding fingertips from the cold and it healed them overnight.
