I don't know where you mean by "deep down south" but most southern states are hot. I still remember the first time I visited a good friend in Louisiana. I flew into NO airport which has a set of double doors to the outside. I remember thinking "I've entered Hell." It's a nice place with wonderful people, but I thought I was going to sponteously combust when I got there. It was HOT!
I live in NC now which is also hot but I have the convenience of a community pool and A/C in my house. I was SO confused when I first moved here because all the houses we saw had fireplaces. I couldn't fathom why they would need fireplaces since it doesn't get cold here. I've been here four years now and I've never been cold but I've met many residents who think it is.
I honestly think I might be heat intolerant. I have passed out from heat stroke many times and I keep fans running 24/7 (mine is called "The Wind Machine"). The pollen here is bad this time of year so I just turned the A/C on this past weekend. Autumn and Spring are my favorite seasons...not too hot, not too cold and Autumn in NC is absolutely gorgeous.
Going down to Atlanta. Summers seem Horrendous compared to here. Average high is 90 F in July , and it barely cools down till late October . What a joke, CNJ would have had their first freeze by then.
Average high of 50 F is called "mid winter" . A true winter sees at least 1 month of subfreezing overcast highs.
There are a bunch of good reasons why I am moving down there (grad school, rapidly emerging job market for engineers close by, southern hospitality), but the weather is just pure torture 8 months a year.
Well, At least I can set my A/C or wear what I want inside (Depending on operating budget).

Yes, I've been to Atlanta. It's hot. I don't know if it's state-wide, but the friends I visited there didn't have grass and nobody in their neighborhood did either. It was some kind of clay, I think.
Moving there is a great idea if it advances you toward your personal and professional goals. You'll manage the heat, I'm sure. Plus, you'll get to wear what you like in your own place. ;-)
I use the exact same covering winter and summer. The difference is that it is usually colder in the summer and no power is being consumed in the winter.
Its supposed to touch the low 80's here tomorrow with 60+ dew points, and I am NOT looking forward to sweating at night .
Depends on how hot. Right now we are at 97F, and it's not uncommon to have weeks of 100F+ (Gym temp standing still has been 91F). I turn on my AC when the inside temp reaches 80, so, yes, I'm still sleeping with a light blanket. I'm definitely not into trying to sleep in the heat.

Oh yeah, Atlanta will be *fun* in the summer. Its not bad for 8 months though. I'd say just May thru Sept. Do you know what part of Atlanta you will be moving to? As in a specific neighborhood? Look forward to hearing all your updates.

Absolute Temperatures are of no use in CNJ. For us, although the high was only 78 F, dew points were in the upper 60's F making it feel oppressively uncomfortable at night. The same 78 F felt very comfortable when I visited No Cal (more specifically Vallejo, CA) a few years back.
I lost 2.5 hours of sleep to high humidity yesterday night, and this is without covers on .
Yes, its stupid and annoying. At the age of 21, I am not permitted to wear what I want. That was the driving force behind me starting this thread, after having an argument with dad.
Why?? This is one of the oddest things I've ever heard of. Is it a cultural thing?
