Most of them look silly to me, especially when they are hanging down to their knees vs layered around the neck. Few people can pull them off.
I have a very pretty floral one, actually I bought it in the children's section so it is a bit smaller, it has a little silk in it, light weight. It kept me very warm for my trip in Prague/Vienna, it was light weight so it was a perfect traveling scarf.
I agree with you--most of them look silly. Most are so big and bulky, they don't blend in with whatever else they are wearing.
I disagree. I think regular long scarves are a great accessory, besides being warm. I think MOST people can pull them off very well.
I think we confuse the issue when we refer to these as traditional scarves. Can we say neck burkas?
They function exactly the same as normal scarves. You either let them hang and they just add warmth around the back of the neck, or you wrap them around and they warm the front, too.
Infinity scarves are just cheaper and less bulky because you don't need extra length to tie. Plus, when you wear one coat all winter long they're a way to shiw some style.
No. I was speaking specifically about infinity scarves. I thought I made that clear.
I have about 15 scarves, and wear them often, in the winter.
They're just a different style of scarf. I don't see how one scarf can be considered "silly" and others perfectly fine to wear. They serve the same function.

They don't look the same at all. And they don't serve the same function, either. An infinity scarf is no where near the warmth of a full "regular" scarf, and it just looks very puffy up around the neck. A full scarf warms me all the way down my front, and I can even wear it inside my coat for extra warmth. I can also wear it like a blanket when I am really cold (I have a cold office in the winter). Infinity scarves are nothing like that - just a big circle of cloth (ergo the name), and they look silly. They look like a giant bird's nest around your neck. No thank you. A regular scarf is much more attractive. Obviously my opinion, but clearly they do NOT look and function the same.
Exactly, ChessieMom... A "traditional" scarf is long, smooth, and straight and worn either wrapped around the neck (for warmth, usually with an outer garment in cold weather) or loosely under the collar as a fashion accent. The "infinity" scarf is bulky loops of extraneous fabric usually hanging loosely around the neck like draft horse's collar - at least whenever I've seen them - and serving no purpose...

Oh, I'm sure they've served the inventor's bank account quite well.
