Why??

Your shoes need time to dry out from the sweat from your feet each day. They will last longer, support your feet, legs and lower back better. To not rotate your shoes in this manner will soon wear your shoes to do nothing more then keep your feet clean. A tired worn out shoe is the worst thing you can own.
Well, this. But I suppose you would not have to be that strict in alternating. I noticed that when I had two or three pair of shoes to go to work in, my feet were more comfortable.

But, you will wear out a pair of shoes much faster if you don't have more than one pair to wear every day.

I am not sure alternating between two pair of shoes is a rule to live by. But you should have more than one pair for day to day wear. For some people who are on their feet constantly every day, finding good supportive shoes for work might be hard, and having two pairs might be expensive. But from my own experience, I think you should have more than one pair to wear day to day.

I have one pair of shoes that I wear to work each day because I spend about 75% of my time on the production floor and need shoes which are comfortable for walking and standing. I do have multiple pairs of shoes that I wear on days which I don't work which I alternate.

I've tried multiple types of shoes for comfort while walking around the factory and the most comfortable ones that I have found are a boy's size 4 narrow slip on loafers with square toes and a very low arch support. Three of my main issues with shoes which will kill my feet: those damned pointed toes (why????), shoes which are medium or wide width, and shoes which have that stupid medium or high arch support. My feet are flat and it hurts to wear shoes with the larger arch supports

I wear them until they look like crap then wear them in the garden until they split and fall off my feel then toss them. Meanwhile replacing with the exact same shoe. This is the most bizarre thread. Shoes don't need to "rest". They aren't like horses, where if you have two horses that you work the fields with, it would be beneficial to rest one every other day and thus greatly expand their life expectancy.

These are shoes. They are not living things that can rest and heal.

This is like hair conditioner commercials that talk about nourishing hair. Hair is dead. You don't need to nourish it any more than you nourish a sweater.

On the other hand, I will say, if you wear the same shoes every day it's more likely you'll develop blisters on your feet from the shoes wearing in exactly the same place every day. For that reason, it might be good to switch up shoes if your shoes are more dressy, and aren't strictly for complete comfort.

What do you mean, they wear out faster if you wear them every day? Of course they do. Let's say you have one pair of shoes, wear them every day, and they last a year. Then if you have two pairs and alternate them, both pairs together last two years. Where does the advantage come in?

I'm also pretty sure it doesn't take an entire day off for my shoes to "dry out" from normal wear. If I was wading in a stream, then yes. But this is a dry climate and my shoes are never that damp. I mean, isn't one of the points of wearing socks to absorb the majority of sweat from your feet?

I have been known to wear the same pair of sandals every day for 5 years, & I am still alive with my feet working. Recently I have been changing my sandals several times a week, but only becasue I bought a new pair for under $10, that look good & are very comfortable, so I like to swap them around.

After years of wearing high heels ( major no no for ankles and proper walking),I made a podiatrist apptment. He ordered a ( notice 'a' ) pair of shoes to correct my feet and allow my body to correct itself . Arch supports were ordered to. He did not say...Ohh alternate shoes! I'm a believer in wearing shoes that fit properly ,are comfortable, and durable. You'll pay twice if you buy into the fashion of shoes vs. functionality. Forget the thong sandals ,terrible on support. I'd rather go barefoot then have plastic rubber thwappin the heel.

My suggestion has nothing to do with fashion what so ever.

My suggestion is for those folks that are not as durable as you are. In fact, you don't know how lucky you are not to have foot, back etc. trouble just from age alone.
