Some people might be "revolted" by female underarm hair. So what? They can shave theirs, and keep their old fashioned opinions to themselves.
I think it started out as an elitist custom. The hoi polloi didn't have the time and resources to shave. Now it's just fashion. Fashion is not mandatory.
I read that in some third world area colonized by Europeans, the native women did not have much leg or underarm hair. The European woman didn't want to be mistaken for locals, so they stopped shaving, and hairy legs became an indicator of status.
It's ok to do whatever you want with your own body. Some people will care, some won't. It's not about them - it's about you and what YOU want to do. I'm not a huge fan of arms totally covered with tattoos, or unkempt beards full of food crumbs, but the people who have them have them because THEY like them, and that's all that matters. Others' opinions, besides their immediate partner's, don't.
It's a ridiculous double standard that women should be completely hairless from head to toe (other than brows and hair on their head) while men pretty much let everything grow wild.
Your body. Your choice. I don't worry about women shaving. It's their choice whether or not they shave. Who am I to judge? Men get a whole month where it's cool not to shave their beard. Why are women supposed to shave every inch of their body while men can grow their hair to look like a bear?
It depends, what culture you are living in. Back in my culture, no one shaved anything where it was meant to be, pretending to know better, than body designer.
Of course, alll the industry, making billions around shaving female parts, did best effort to convince the world that, it is deadly sin to have armpit hair or, for men, chest hair.
So yes, keep making them richer.
If you decide you don't want to cut the hair off this or that part of your own body for some reason, of course its OK. Do what's right for you. If the decision ends up making you feel self conscious maybe it was the wrong choice. You can always do the opposite...its reversible. If you can't think for yourself and only do what others (total strangers you haven't even met...fashion/cosmetics industry and public forum posters) tell you to do guess you'll need to tally up the yes or no votes and pick the winner.
