I have read different articles that encourage women to shave everything down there. Back in the 80s and early 90s women trimmed, but they didn't shave everything. I'm also thinking that today's "bald" style is more prevalent among younger women, although my last girlfriend shaved it all off, and she was 38.

I'd like to know if this is just a trend, or is it something that will become permanent with women?

I've heard the lame excuses why women shave everything ... it's cleaner, healthier, more hygienic, sexier, guys will go down on them more often, etc.

I'm thinking that the reasons are really psychological; here are several theories that have been brought up:

-young women do it, because they are basically girls (a 22 year-old has spent most of her life as a girl, whereas a 35 year-old not)
-therefore having hair down there is more like a woman thing, adulthood, or getting older thing
-society/family has convinced girls/women that hair down their is ugly, and to make it beautiful you have to shave everything
-society/family has convinced girls/women that the whole thing down there is ugly, and so shaving just makes a bad thing a little better
-most porn shows that the girl is clean shaven down there, and so they learn from that
-pressure from man-boys who want it shaved because they like the young girl look (one of my friends is like that and he's 40)
-women think they'll get it more from a guy if they shave

Or do women truly think that it just looks much better on them? Or does society tell them that it looks better? If so, why did women in the past not shave it all off, like back in the 80s & 90s (and before that?)

Anyways, I love it when women keep hair down there... I'm not asking them to let it grow uncontrollably, but for those who shave everything (or even just keep the tiniest landing strip), I ask them... no I beg them... please analyze deep down what it is that makes you want to shave off what makes you a woman. I cannot stand it when society pressures women to adapt to some ideal that's imaginary.

And guys contribute to this whole mess... my buddy uses the "hair in teeth" excuse, but he's obviously not very good at doing it. I think I get hair in the teeth 1% of the time and it doesn't bother me one bit. BFD! I guess I'm a man, not a wussy. And I don't secretly dream that I'm making love to a minor.

Help me out people!

Uhh girls get hair down there around age 8. Not really a "woman" thing when its starting that young.

You are a guy and obviously never had a period. Imagine blowing your nose out your crotch + blood. You think thats going to be smooth sailing with a jungle going on?

I don't think porn makes you shave. LOL. It may make your boyfriend ask you to, but only you are going to do it or not. I don't know why you think your ideal is better than someone else personal crotchal choice.

p.s. it makes sex better. So I can see why some "men" would not get that one.

Wow, who said that you have to shave it all off just because you have a period?
That's a totally ridiculous statement.
So women since the beginning of time were idiots and the women of 2010 are the ones to see the light?

I never said my ideal was better, again vastly mediocre interpretation!
It's simply a turn on for me that she doesn't shave everything.

I just believe that for many women, the reasons are psychological, and I ask women to give more than a fast-food analysis like you do.

And you say sex is better when a woman shaves everything?
Really? You can prove that with all women?
So if a guy is not turned on by a totally shaven woman, the couple will still have better sex?

Ridiculously illogical...

I rest my case concerning "psychological issues" Proof number one above!

Yeh because YOU have had a period. WTF are you talking about? You telling me how its to have a period is a totally ridiculous statement there dude.

Well yes you did claim to have a higher existance on the subject you condescending little cockadoo because you begged all of us to review ourselves like there was something wrong with the choice. The sex is better for the girl. And yes. you get hair out of the way there is more skin contact. Biological fact of the obvious kind.

I have yet to meet anything male that is grossed out by grooming.

I guess I am example number one because I don't like blood clots in my pubes and enjoy sex my way instead of whatever I can do get a male...

Yeh

Ok.

Personally I think shaving everything off down there is disgusting and I do not like it. It itches almost instantly as soon as you do it and depending on your anatomy, i.e. whether your inner labia protrude, it can be very uncomfortable.

I shave the inner thighs and keep it neat, but that is all. I refuse to shave it, and if somebody has a problem with that...tough!

If you like shaving, fine; but do not tell me it is hygienic or makes sex better. Neither is true, at least not for me.

Does not itch for me. It is cleaner, but probably does not feel like it if you are itchy. Hair traps bacteria, skin, oil etc.

p.s. people have been shaving that all off for a long time way before 2010.

I do wax, but it's not b/c of my period (which isn't an issue either way for me), but b/c it seems to be what guys want now, and it definately makes a few things a little easier/more pleasant. So why not?

Oh, and if you shave, that itches as it comes in. With waxing - no itch.

It is not cleaner; in fact if you go to a salon to be waxed you are more likely to contract an infection than you would be if you did nothing to your pubic area.

Shaving it yourself can also cause cellulitis, folliculitis, and exposed labia are more prone to trauma (especially from scratching) which increases your risk of a vaginal infection. Also the hair is not there to absorb the sweat from the skin around your genitals or any vaginal discharge and to me the resulting sweaty crotch is really disgusting...and all it does is increase your risk of infection.

Personally I would advise any woman to not shave off all of her pubic hair, especially if she is doing it only because some idiot male is telling her to...or because someone is telling her it's "cleaner." It isn't.
