Some might find this article in Forbes interesting: Six Flags' Profit Falls 46%; Stock Descends - washingtonpost.com
Apparently Six Flags is having a tough time because of weather affecting attendance at some of their parks. Earlier last year they decided to sell off some of their smaller theme parks because only the largest were profitable.

Just something to think about. Most small theme parks really struggle and eventually close. Williams does not have the consistent mild temps throughout the year to keep a theme park open all year. Plus the availability and expense of water is another consideration.

I certainly would hate to see a theme park built in Williams only to shut down in a few years, leaving an abandoned eyesore.

GCNAE said recent meeting a positive one

After two meetings with the Coconino County Board of Supervisors, representatives with Grand Canyon Northland Amusements and Entertainment (GCNAE) said they are making headway with their plans for a themed park in the Williams area. The park, to be called "Grand Canyon Country" is slated for a location at the Garland Prairie exit in Williams, located along Interstate 40. GCNAE officials, including managing partner Casey Buitenhuis, met with county officials for their first meeting Jan. 8.

Things are looking up for the WilliamsTheme Park!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exclamation Williams Theme Park website update

You cannot use the previous website address gcnae.com to view the Theme Park progress you must use the new web site address

Grand Canyon-Northland Amusements & Entertainment, LLC > Home (broken link)

If Williams does not approve the Park they have a back up location, which I hope is Ash Fork.

I think some parts of the park are seasonal and some parts are enclosed for year round use.

We have a multipurpose area, it's called a green area. They'll have like an amphitheater, which will be protected from the elements. That's for groups coming in for productions of different activities and, right now, that's what we have planned. We don't have a build out per se for a big castle that they had originally hoped for," he said. "They are definitely not out. They're a part of this."

I think there are more pressing problems than how much money some rich sucker is going to pour into Northern Arizona. This entire Global Economy is headed for the toilette. People are'nt going to visit extreme out of the way , off the beaten path places if they have to pay $5-6 dollars a gallon gas. Let along food , hotel etc which will also have to be out of sight price wise.

Much of the tourist figures information will be interesting everywhere down the road soon, not just AZ. People are going to hold back. I think one of the first industries hit hard will be tourism , restaurants , etc. After that other businesses will domino. People will be saving for an uncertain future.

BTW , I could'nt get that link to open.

Woe woe woe. Doom & gloom. If all the planners, developers, and entrepreneurs had your attitude, nothing would ever be built. Yes, the economy is doing poorly at this time, and more people are cutting back on expenses ... but economic conditions are cyclical. The economy will eventually come back around on its own.

This theme park probably won't materialize if the enviro nuts, the NIMBYs, and the doomsday naysayers become a driving force against it. If they don't want to visit the theme park, then they have every right to stay away. Don't deny the ones who want theme parks from having them.
