Hello,
I was offered a job in Cottonwood AZ but would like to remain in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and commute to work everyday. I was told that you can make the drive in about an hour, is that correct? Does anyone have any experience with working in Cottonwood and then commuting? I currently live in the east valley and work in the west valley so an hour or so commute to work isn't an issue.
Thank You!

An hour ? If you have ideal weather and no accidents on the extremely rugged terrain of I 17 from Black Canyon City to Campe Verde, I suppose you could be there in an hour going 90 MPH. I'd consider the Anthem area of you don't want to completely leave The Valley.

It may be 60 miles from Apache Junction to Buckeye but it's level roads. The wear and tear on your car will become an issue. Plus, you'll be dealing with logjams from the Future 303 Southward each way. Which makes Anthem about the only place.

It takes me about 90 minutes to reach the upper edges of the Phx area. I live in Cottonwood and have family living off of Happy Valley road. With all the increase in traffic on I-17 over the last few years, traffic jams are a real concern. The last one I got caught in, southbound lanes were closed for 5 hours due to an accident.
Depending on where it happens, you don't have a lot of alternate routes and may have to sit there.

Curly

I'm with Cruly, 90 minutes to the 101 from Cottonwood minimum even if you're speeding. That's in perfect traffic, perfect weather etc.

I would NEVER do it. When there's snow and ice rain on top of the mountain it is scary as hell and I'm used to driving in Canada.

if you'll be making the round trip five days a week, that's too much....don't do it!.....I'll bet door-to-door will be close to two hours each way....

as suggested, I'd get a place in Anthem if you must remain in the Phx area....but still that's too much on your poor car......

My suggestion would be to move up to Cottonwood and commute to Phoenix on the weekends

Not a reasonable commute. You'd spend your life in your car. I'd live in Sedona or Prescott if I were you.

Also: With construction starting on I-17 just north of Camp Verde (going up the hill before you reach AZ 169), that commute is only going to be worse for the next couple of years.

LOL!! Man this seriously made me laugh. Just you're straight to the point, no BS description of what that drive COULD be like going 90 mph was brilliant. Pictureing this guy flying at 90MPH to get to work while traversing all that you described is worthy of being filmed for major laughs. Well done.

No way you can do it in less than an Hour and and Half. Unless you buy a plane.
