It's when you start copying that you are always one step behind.
Although you may think it sounds profound, what you said makes no sense. The best way is to see what works, and if someone has already proven it you take what they have done and build on it.

Please explain
"Finding unique solutions to unique problem"?
That is pretty hard to do when you are unwilling to make the investment to find those solutions. Standing still can be far more costly then moving forward. One of two things will happen. The money will go to another state and we will see them fail. or be kicking ourselves because we missed out. I don't care to have to be governed by cowards afraid to the future.

Please read what I'm writing before commenting. I said that copying + improving might be ok, but not investing in an obsolete system that is a step backwards from what other countries have. We are $14 trillion in debt man. Investment should be in real progress, not obsolete items.

When will people in this country open their eyes and understand that we are broke?!! We (the US) don't have the money for this. And, when was the last time you saw any government project come in at budget or below it? It is a boondoggle project that is unnecessary and there are more immediate needs that must come first. We need to start by having a balanced budget, then move money around to fulfill the most pressing needs, and then work on getting the debt reduced. It won't happen by itself and it can't be ignored. If you think times are tough now, wait and see what happens once we are in complete default. It is not just bluster, it is real and responsible members of both parties admit it. Projects like these are, at best, niceties best put off for a much stronger economy.

This just a short while ago,

UPDATE: Sure enough, on Wednesday, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released a statement urging the Obama administration to redirect the more than $2 billion in high-speed rail funds from Florida to New York:

Florida's loss should be New York's gain. Other states may not be ready to unlock the potential of high-speed rail, but it is a top priority for upstate New York. We can put these funds to use in a way that gets the best bang for the buck. The administration should redirect these funds to New York as quickly as possible.

I guess we are just stuck here in backwards Florida with our rebel flags waiting to advance to wearing shoes. This state is little more then a punchline, a national joke.

Of course other states will be happy to have the money. No brainer to me. What a jock.

Great news, thank you Governor Scott! The piggy bank is broken and there is no more money for big government boondoggles.

No shock there. Schumer is a perfect example of what is wrong with our country and the political system.

Since we don't have enough money, we'll just instruct the treasury dept to just print some more. There, that will solve the problem - quantitative easing.

You are so right - the piggy bank is beyond broken. The amount of borrowing and printing of money that has gone on over the last two administrations is mind boggling.

We finally have a politician who is willing to say no to more out of control spending. Kudos to Scott.

The American Interstate Highway System is the greatest transportation network ever erected in the history of the world and arguably the greatest public works project ever in the history of the world. Since Eisenhower illegally ramrodded the Interstate Highway System down the throats of Americans (it was considered socialist) the United States became the most prosperous country in the history of the world because of its ability of private entities to ship their goods to every imaginable urban area (thus major market) all at taxpayers' expense. The Interstate Highway System made suburbanization possible at the expense of destroying every conceivable black inner-city neighborhood all at taxpayers' expense. owever now this lifeblood of American prosperity is crumbling.

It should be noted that Eisenhower was a Republican. Not a Southern Democrat who became Republican because they didn't like that blacks won the right in U.S. Supreme Court to participate in the Democratic Primary. He was a real Republican. A fiscally responsible Republican. Eisenhower had a mechanism to pay the American Interstate Highway System, the standing military complex, public education, and everything else. The mechanism? The top tax bracket for the wealthiest Americans was 91%. The reason why the country is in economic ruin is because the wealthiest Americans and their corporations ship jobs overseas and their companies and goods (and the means to ship them) are all supported by the American military complex and a system they don't pay into. I don't know about you, but I don't need to be protected from Somalian pirates to earn my livelihood.

Not coincidentally, this was the peak level of economic prosperity in the history of the United States, with the Clinton era being second. The Republican response since Reagan has been to give tax cuts to the wealthy and go into debt to pay for them. Even the real George Bush (the father), called this "voodoo economics". Reagan made him VP so he wouldn't take the thinking half of the Republican Party with him. The Republican of today has no plan. The Republican of today has no clue.

Ha...the FEDS are completely of the hock on this one. They will send the money to another state...so basically what they are saying is: "Well, if Florida is not ready to waste our money, we will find someone who is".

The road to ruin might actually be paved with high speed rail I guess.
