You keep saying this, but what's so obsolete about high-speed rail?

Majority Democratic states need to stop subsidizing Red State welfare, take the money they worked for, and develop the transportation networks that get Americans to work and not ship jobs to Mexico.

We can put these funds to use in a way that gets the best bang for the buck. The administration should redirect these funds to New York as quickly as possible.

I guess we are just stuck here in backwards Florida with our rebel flags waiting to advance to wearing shoes. This state is little more then a punchline, a national joke.
Let NY stay on the hook for it too when it ends up needing indefinite taxpayer support. I'm sure they won't mind hiking their property, sales, income and gas taxes a little more to pay for it.

I'm sure you're not implying FL is part of that group, right? FL is actually pretty even in terms of what it sends back to Uncle Sam vs. what it gets in benefits.

That is correct. Florida loses about three cents on the dollar. But how quickly you have changed your tune from:

"Let NY stay on the hook for it too when it ends up needing indefinite taxpayer support. I'm sure they won't mind hiking their property, sales, income and gas taxes a little more to pay for it."

So knowing Florida is "part of the group", then why are you lying to yourself about New York's inability to pay for it? If anything, New Yorkers are helping to pay for pet projects in Florida. Although it would benefit Florida, Schumer is right, that money should go to New York, New Jersey, California, Pennsylvania, and other states that are actually paying into the system and not the Welfare Queen Red States.

Florida and Texas can continue to lie to themselves. If the U.S. wants to make cuts to the budget, stop the subsidies to Republicans. Of the top ten violators of receiving more federal subsidies than they pay in, eight of the states have Republican Governors. And the two with Democratic Governors oddly enough are Kentucky and West Virginia. I can't explain why two solidly Republican states would have Democratic Governors except that the Appalachian Regional Commission will always make sure they get more federal subsidies than they know what to do with. Maybe it is too bad Southerners didn't win the War of Yankee Agression because them Yankees have been subsidizing their ineptitude ever since!

Again, if you are arguing over Democrats vs Republicans and which state should grab their piece of the pie you are missing the point! We don't have the money in the first place! If that money is used in any state, it is a mistake that will cost all of us way more than that amount. Wake up!

I thought one of our goals as a country was to get out of using oil. What happens when we eventually start fighting others over oil? This may cost more now but eventually we need some progress in transportation. Like the guy said about Eisenhower who made a huge leap in the progress of the country.

Those two statements are not inconsistent. Why should FL build something that has no guarantee of turning a profit or ever becoming self-sustaining? Heck, even the metros in NY and Chicago have a hard time doing that.

Rick Scott and Chris Christie in NJ know a boondoggle when they see one.

It is the right call.

Didn't you just acknowledge that

"Florida loses about three cents on the dollar"

??

There is no way to fix that inequity except to get rid of the federal personal income tax. That is the main driver of revenue for the federal government, and states like CA and NY have a higher proportion of high-wage earners than places like MS, or AR.
