I am curious as to the 6-month injection for heartworm. Pro-Heart 6 was on the market but was taken off by the FDA several years ago due to adverse effects in canines, ie., thousands of deaths. My JRT had experienced extremely negative effects from the Pro-Heart 6 injections, however, is still alive. After I spoke with many veterinarians and was proactive with the removal of the drug from the the FDA's approved list, they felt that the bolus of medication was unhealthy for the animals and such preventative drugs should only be used on a monthly basis.

My vet here (we have relocated since this thread began) has never mentioned a 6 month heartworm shot.
Also, our vet does not insist on annual rabies vaccination.
They prefer Advantix and this is what we changed to last year, seems to work okay.
We've seen toads here but I am not sure if they are the bad ones.
The dog does not seem that interested in them, but I have rescued some baby ones from the cat; both toad and cat seemed okay.

I Thank You and my little Dog Thanks You for any information!
I just moved back to Ma from Fl. about a year and a half ago, I have a dog and a cat. While I was in Fl. I used a product called Revolution, that you put on the back of there necks. It is used to prevent heart worm, fleas, ticks, and other parasites. I swear by this product. Fl is infested with fleas and I never once had a problem with my dog or cat. And think of the money you will save having a heart worm preventative and flea & tick preventative all in one. You will not be disappointed. What ever you do don't leave your pets outside for a long period of time it is way to hot and humid. Good Luck in your move
