Don't get me wrong. I'd love to go scuba diving, and explore coral reefs, and maybe even some underwater caves or some ancient ruins! All those things would be totally awesome. But wow! Had no idea there were so many sharks so close to the beach. I thought it was a true rarity -- but the fact that "situational awareness" was suggested in this thread makes you realize just how serious it is. A bit scary.

my friend its just like here you can spend an eternity on the beach and be safe or be in a boat and be safe, its only when you get in the water with them that stuff happens. listen to your instincts not other people. as to being chicken i know men that were not afraid of anything.
of course they are dead.

That's like saying you should just watch a video on (enter country) because it's only when you leave your home when stuff happens lol.

I don't recall what type of mammal it was, weather a bottle-nosed dolphin (which just came to mind) or something else. This was years back and I recall was seeing was something dark in the water when I was on the beach. I don't get into the water too far anyways.

Odds are on your side that even if a shark is in the area you won't be bothered by it. Less than 100 bites a year worldwide out of the millions and millions of people who do get in the oceans of the world puts it in the pretty rare happening status in my books.

Do you drive? That's a lot more dangerous than going in the ocean.

Just when we thought it was safe. Katharine, a 14 foot, 2300 lb. Great White female, is right now visiting the nearshore waters off Daytona Beach as of December 29, 2013. OCEARCH Global Tracking Central

Your odds of getting hit in Florida just bumped up a smidge.

What a fascinating link ! I had no idea that some sharks were tagged for satellite location and named. Would love to know how they get that tag on them....

Catch and Release... there are some people wishing they would kill the sharks, but scientists put a tracker on them to learn more about their behaviors, etc.
