Amazing to me how for many, weather trumps all when deciding where to live!

I think that it's one of the few good things about living here. There really isn't nothing better than shorts and t-shirts year round.

I think that if I made my mind up, I could live just about anywhere if I had to.
But I do enjoy the mild winter, and I love the beach.

Well, winter has finally arrived in NNY. Monday, we saw six inches of snow. This morning, we woke up to -11 degrees. I can't wait till this time next year, when I'm sitting on our lanai, emailing my poor sister to irritate her that it's 80 outside and I'm on my way to the pool.

I agree with some people about wanting four seasons. This is what I want. I am sick and tired of the endless heat. Its 84 in my room now and I have to turn the a/c on. Our a/c bills are over $400 a month because of this. Summers are brutal with temperatures in excess of ninety and throw in humidity and you have a heat index of a hundred easily! Some people like Elfyum and Coldcanadian love the heat 24/7, others want four seasons.

For those tired of the cold up north, would you rather sweat and have to turn the a/c on 24/7 and watch your bills soar? Will you miss the four seasons and snow for the endless summer in Florida(especially south) Are you willing to deal with crime, hurricanes and high costs of living in exchange for no cold weather? That is your choice.

I'll deal with that and more. Winters up north are more than cold weather. Did you read about how many deaths were caused by the latest winter storm?

Have you ever had your fingers or toes feel like they have been hit by a hammer because you stayed out in the cold too long?

Have you ever come to a complete stop on the interstate only to have your car slide sideways on black ice?

Have you ever had the car in front of you do donuts on black ice and and you were unable to stop?

Have you ever gone a month without seeing the sun?

Have you ever seen the destruction that a northern twister can do?

Have you ever shoveled snow until there was no place to put it?

Have you ever spent an hour or more shoveling snow at 6am so you could get your car out of the garage and drive to work on snow covered roads?

Have you ever had a snow plow go by an block your car in with snow?

Have you ever had water back up on your roof and under the shingles because of ice built up on the roof?

Have you ever had to figure out which car was yours in a parking lot because they were all buried in snow?

Have you ever had your car doors freeze up during freezing rain and you could not get in your car?

Have you ever had to stay home on Christmas because the roads were too hazardous to drive to your relative's home?

Have you ever tried to walk on an icy sidewalk without falling?

I could go on and on. Northern winters are more than cold, there a pain in the ____. Hot is uncomfortable, cold hurts.

I moved to Florida 5 years ago and I love the climate. Those of you that long to move up north can have my share of winter. The only thing I miss about Ohio is family and friends.

The answer is "no" to all of them except the twister thing, we get them here too! I do not expect to experience most of those problems when I move up north. Depends where north I move, there wont be much snow nor ice. I have my doubts about Des Moines even though its a nice location, it gets bitterly cold with lots of snow and ice. Oil city is much milder and parts of south Ohio and West Virginia are almost subtropical(between subtropical and teperate dedcidous) they are zone 7b I believe. I have a friend in Woodsfield Ohio and he says it hardly snows, maybe an inch. Temperatures generally stay above freezing for a high, causing what little snow to quickly melt away. If cold and snow is too much of a problem in Oil city, I may choose a milder climate such as in Woodsfield, OH. An inch of snow that melts the next day is no big deal.
