I have shopped in almost every supermarket in the vicinity of Disney for over 12 years. We always get a time-share with a kitchen and prefer relaxing "at home" during the day. Of all the markets, I seek out a Publix and will drive extra just to get to one. Besides having incredible sales, the service and the cleanliness of the stores can't be beat.

As to the original post about safety in the parking lot, since it's well-known there is a problem at that store, why isn't the Miami PD doing something about it? Crime prevention is a part of a PD's job.

How could the police union demand more dues-paying cops with ever better pay and benefits if they were effective? In government, failure is success.

Folks, please stay on topic.
The topic is Publix...not the police.

I am a native born Floridian, live near the Publix corporate hdqtrs, and a very senior citizen. I like Publix and shop their frequently for the produce, meats and deli foods. Many years ago, I shopped Winn Dixie quite often and the Thrifty Maid can goods were exceptionally good. Now, I find my Publix not carrying the things I need or bought for years and I do find them still at the local Winn Dixie. The WD here is clean and friendly and always busy. I see others fairly close by, new stores, with almost no traffic.

I will say I like Publix meats from my store. For years, Winn dixie was known for their meats and the variety but I believe the quality has dropped. When we had an Albertsons down the street from us, many people raved about their meats but I never found that to be true....their product selection was enormous, I thought.

I get in the habit of shopping the store and I have a tendency to be loyal to that store. I started shopping at Home Depot many years ago and could spend a whole day there. Now, I have a Lowe's a couple of blocks away and I drive right by, drive 4 miles to the HD.

As previously pointed out on a different thread about Publix, their lack of commitment to providing local produce is maddening. Why are items like Tomatoes and Corn from everywhere else but here? Canadian Tomatoes...really???

Have you talked to management about it?
Nobody around my local community is growing tomatoes and corn right now, it being February.
But some veggies are available seasonally, and marked Florida Grown.

I definitely agree on Buyer Beware, and understand that these guys are in this to make a profit. I certainly have my Buyer Beware hat on when I shop the farmer's market, because not everything even those vendors carry is local. But if you ask, and talk to them about it, you can find out quite a bit.

My local Publix has had the Florida ugli ripe tomatoes in season and on sale for $1.99-$2.49 a pound for about the past month. They're by far the best grocery store tomato I've found.

I LOVE PUBLIX !! I work and shop at PUBLIX !! Hard work with fair pay and great benefits. The store is clean, well stocked, and usually can find help or assistance when needed. I am proud to say I am a part of the PUBLIX family and extremely honored to work for a company founded by Mr George Jenkins!!
